    Hello All:

Here are some pictures of the 70' Olds race car my friend Bruce and I bought this past weekend! It runs 10:70 in the 1/4 and 6:80 in the 1/8. It has a balanced and blueprinted 461 C. I. with fully ported factory "E" heads, Harland Sharp rockers, Ultradyne (Bullet) flat tappet solid cam, turbo 400 with a trans brake and reverse manual valve body and a JW 3,400 rpm stall converter, 67' Chevy 12 bolt rear 4:10 with a steel spool and Moser 30 spline axles, meszer electric water pump with a Griffen alumn, raditor, Holley 950 HP 4150 flange with a ported EB Torquer manifold, and the list goes on. Some really nice parts used to build this car, well thought out prepared car. It has a 6 point cage and is certified to 11:00 in the 1/4 and 7:00 in the 1/8, until at a later date we will up grade the cage to run quicker. Plus the body/paint is nice (factory 70' color, Aspen Green), and it is a "post " car to boot. LOL Pretty much everthing is new in this car this past year or so. We purchased this car for 1/3 of the cost to build. Guy is a private business owner and fell on hard times in 2011 and had to sell. Was glad that both Bruce and I have Olds cars and that I had been "factory backed" by Olds in Stock and Super Stock. Bruce and I are splitting the cost so it will be affordable for both of us. Only going to race one or two times a month, so it will be fun, fun, fun. There is going to be a "learning curve" for the both of us. He has never been down the track, and it has been 20 years since I have been in a true race car!

    enjoy,
    dave b.

Always cool to see a fast car that doesn't scream it. No offense. I love those 70 Oldsmobiles. Been kinda partial for quite a few years myself. Glad to hear you are planning on having fun with it.

I love it. Even in that Aspen Green! Go get 'em, Dave.. (actually thought that was the Pinehurst Green like the 72's...we called that the lima bean color, or pea soup green).

My 1st car I bought when I just turned 16 was a 69 442 back in 1976. I loved that car and it was fast, real fast. To bad I was a dumb kid and I destroyed it, I all ways thought I'd get another one but it looks like allot of people with much more money$$$ than I have the same Idea, there's always the lottery. Nice find I'm envious.

Looks awesome. Don't let adrenaline or ego take over on your first couple passes take it easy while you and your buddy get used to it. Footbrake it easy on your first couple launches then go for the full transbrake launch once comfortable.

  8. Very nice. :TU:Was it on Craigslist by chance? I swear I saw one similar to it recently. I wonder why the bar is only certified to 11.00? I had a 5 pt Wolfe Racecraft in my 2000 Z28 (best of 10.77 @ 125), it was good to 10.00 per NHRA rules.

ronbz455-ALL BBO power (except 12 bolt chevy rear)

no1oldsfan-yes, that is what we like about it. It does come with a lightweight ram air lift off fiberglass hood painted the same color as the body.

    seanBuick76-thanks-we think so tooooooooooooo!

DaveH- thanks man! Going to be studing up on Holley carbs, kind of know all there is about Q-jets, so will be a learning curve for me for sure. The previous owner already has sorted most of the tune out. After changing all of the fluids and filters, going over ever nut and bolt, replacing the old front tires with MT front runners, will be taking to a local chassis dyno to get a "starting point of HP, Torq, and Air/Fuel". The owner installed a EGT probe in the header tube at the #1 cylinder, so he did some good things in setting this car up! Going to do my best, but need to get use to the LEDs they now use in the Xmas tree. I am use to the old incandesent bulbs.

    vonwolf-thanks

Clanceman427-Exactly what we are going to do. He will drive my Honda Accord to "get use to the race track/lights enviorment and me doing lots of 3,000 to 4,000 rpm runs to see how the car reacts", before letting ' er rip @ 6,500 shifts! Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

1972LS5chevelle-Yes, it was listed on Craigslist. According to the 2012 NHRA Rule Book it states: cars running faster than 10.99 to 10.00 in the 1/4 ( 6.99/6.00 in the 1/8) must have a 10 point CAGE".. They consider a 6 point a "roll bar".

Dave, I was able to see all the pics from my computer (instead of my phone) and man, that car is gorgeous! Congrats again. What slicks are you guys going to run? I noticed it's got some street tires on it in the pics. can't wait to see more pics and hear how the shakedowns go.

Ya clanceman427- did not figure that out why the MT Street Et s on the car when we looked it over. We also got a set of Weld Pro Stars 15X10 and MT Drag Tires 29.5X10.5X15 tires with looks like very few runs on them. We saw the ET print outs on the 1/8 runs he made. Still that is not really important as the car as is very capeable of high 10 's as is with the drag tires installed. Me thinks he wanted to market the car as a streetable car to sell it faster.

  12. Dave, I checked again... the rule is 5 Point for 10.00 - 11.49 - "A five point roll bar with a driver's door bar is the minimum required between 10.00 and 11.49, provided the firewall, floor and frame haven't been cut or modified (tubs or minitubs are okay)."
