Well, It's 2 weeks before Stanton. Time to start workin on the cars!ou: Been getting a 57 ford fairlane 500 running for a guy here in town. Guy has cancer and dying, wanted to drive the car down route 66 to california before he dies. The car had been sitting for 20 years, motor seized, trans was junk, and Mice went nuts ! The guy came to me and asked if I could help him out. I kinda thought ,I don't have time , I got all this stuff to do to my own cars.. But as we talked it set in, He's dying- I'm not. I have all the time in the world to finish my stuff. Finished it up sunday night, Took all summer, But runs like a champ. Told him to jump in - lets go for it's maiden voyage. He told me no, for me to drive it, He wanted to see it drive down the road. My dad was standing with him as I pulled out. Dad said he cried like a baby. He had NEVER seen it driving. Bought it in 1980, restored the car, and had NEVER drove it. Only trailered it to car shows. He Leaves in 2 weeks. So started workin on My 69 Post Chevelle Monday, puttin the Motor back together, Brians rebuilding a trans, Hope to have it together this weekend. To Milan Dragway next week, then on to Stanton to run what ever it runs. Atleast for this year. I couldn't Let Chris be the ONLY last minute thrasher!!! Donny are u ready ???
Now that's what I call having your priorities straight. Props to you Tim . One of the coolest things I've heard in a long time. Rich C.
Wow I admire you! Very selfless. P.S. you don't list a 69 post Chevelle in your car list. Is this a new aquisition?
Well done! :TU: Hope you are repaid by the Chevelle running better & faster than you ever dreamed it would. Looking forward to seeing it.
Got any pictures of this "unicorn" 69' Chevelle you keep mentioning? Would love to see some pictures, 1969 is my favorite year for Chevelles. I used to own a 1969 SS 396 L78/M21 car, miss it dearly.
Trying to post a few, see if this works. 1969 deluxe 300. L89/ 396-375hp. Bench seat column shift. A few guys around here have got to see it, but been keepin this one quiet. Always wanted to do a post car. Had the motor done early spring, but there was porosity in the head ( STUPID FACTORY ALUM HEADS ) so I had a water leak in the #3 exhaust port. Didn't know it. Had been saving the heads for years for just the right project ! Broke the motor in, shut it down. came back the next day to the motor filled with water ! GRRRR Tore the motor apart, fixed the head, and just gettin around to puttin it back together now. Had Bob Boden over to look thru the motor this summer to make sure it was on the up and up. Just to save agrivation later. haha
Tim, nice of you to help him. If he needs any help along the way, have him get in touch with me. I'm not too far from the old Rt. 66. The Chevelle looks nice !
The Chevelle is crazy sexy. Only thing I don't like about it is the fact that its not in my barn. This car on its own would be worth the trip to Stanton. Pete is a great old guy that I'm sure praying has a great trip. I believe he has the car he needs and he is now feeling like its a simple cruise Godspeed Pete
Tim,The kindness you showed that man is incredible. I tip my hat to you. If the saying"You get what you give" is true, you should be in pretty good shape!!
Hat's off to you, was a nice thing to do! :TU: Must be the year of the Ford. Helped a co-worker do much the same on a 56 Ford Club Sedan. 292 was frozen as the car sat for 30 years. Looked like it came out of a time capsule. Could have eaten off the underneath as the floor pans were mint. T-bird package, 3.89 rear and 3 speed manual with overdrive. Net of it, another 292 was rebuilt with new pistons and redone heads and a hotter cam. Came out nice and runs like a top. Did a good job on that Ford for a Buick guy. Again, nice of you to do that and I trust good comes back to you!
Good work Tim! I need to tip my hat to Ronda as well! That smile and tears of joy of that gentleman I am sure was priceless! That is a heart warming story. Jim
Thanks for the kind words guys, I think Most of us car guys understand his perdicament and would probably do the same. Brian,, it's actually Glacier Blue Don,, I would love Rhonda to drive this one, Should drive the same as her OLDS- Butttt just a weee bit faster:Brow: And 400lbs lighter doesn't hurt eitherp
Tim I wish there were a lot more people like you on this planet we call Earth. It sure would be a better place for all of us to live. But for some, it's all about me and forget everyone else. And like I already suggested, if you need a extra hand spinning wrenches to get the 300 back together for the event, just give me a call my friend. I'm just a stone throw away from you. And if everyone thinks the 300 Deluxe looks good in the pic's he posted, wait until you see her first hand. She's going to be one awesome Pure Stocker. See everyone in a couple of weeks and please have a safe trip in. GOING FAST ON POLY / GLAS Bob Boden
The color looks amazing on that car, I am usually biased towards Lemans Blue. Can't wait to see how it runs. :TU:
WOW Tim! Helping that guy was so selfless of you - I really respect that! It will be cool to see that Chevelle. I do have a brand new set of -CC metering rods for you; giving me a set of the same at Martin was another selfless act! See you at Stanton!
