Hello v8buick! I bought my 1972 Skylark 4 door(don't bite my head off, I was looking for a 4 door, got tired of 2 doors, but I probably hadn't found a fun one like the old Buicks) about a year ago. It's a project, didn't cost very much, but it was mostly complete with minimal rust. It unfortunately had been molested a bit, radios missing, some gauges put in the dash ou:, speakers missing, AC deleted, upgraded intake but no carb, loose wires and some things under the hood not attached to anything. I replaced the water pump, radiator, put in a battery, and started it up. Engine good, transmission not so good, I should be sending it to the shop next month, I had a quote for the TH350 rebuild for between $650-950. After upgrading to an alternator, fixing the transmission, it would be up and running, all I would need to do then is a little bit of body work, align the hood, set the passenger door so it doesn't rub when wide open, fix the leak in the trunk and start work on the interior. It's not terrible for a first project car, very little rust, Cali car, only a small patch on the passangers side, and a dime sized patch on the hood. A new rear bumper, and a front grille, but those things I can live with for a bit until I can track them down. I would like to put some headers on it, it looks like newer exhaust but stock headers, or it would be kinda cool to run the exhaust out the sides behind the rear doors. Who know's, some time down the road, a bigger engine, better transmission, and a live rear axle would make it zoom down the road, laws permitting of course I made an account a couple months back after lurking but not able to join, I haven't really been on here much because it just seems like so much information, I don't know where to look or start, but I'm taking a first step!
Welcome to the V8BUICK community and you are in the right place to get help preserving, restoring and enjoying your BUICK. I suggest finding a factory parts manual, assembly manual and a body manual. Copies are readily available for sale on fee bay or here if you ask. A couple web sites are great sources for parts like The Parts Place, T/A Performance and CARS, but this site is the best place to start looking for parts. Some parts are available NOS, but mostly used OEM that a offered here, local Craigslist, and Feebay among other market places. Advice is usually pretty easily offered here. Don't hesitate to ask questions and parts are hoarded herein if you discover you need parts that are not reproduced... Welcome! MO
Welcome! Dont worry about it being a "More Door", I bought a project a while back. A 1954 Buick Super with extra doors. It is morphing into a pretty much frame off resto, one thing leads to another, then as long as i went this far... I know I will have more into it than it is worth (in monetary value) it isnt always about the money. I am doing because I like it and you will too! Welcome home! :TU:
Not too many, too few "doors" (Re: Wet behind the ears with a 72 Skylark 4 door.) Dear SoCal72Skyark and V-8 Buick welcoming committee, First, welcome to V-8 Buick!! Well now, be careful about who you offend . . . . . There some of us around here who would insist you didn't get too many doors, but instead you are one "door" short!! Sounds like this car has lots of "potential." Of course the trouble with potential is that it takes a lot of work to make it real. So take it easy and start daydreaming!! With patience, you'll get your ride to where you want to be! In the meantime, we'd love to see a few pics :kodak: of your baby. :3gears: And while your at it, if you aren't shy, go ahead and tack your first name to the end of your message or park it in your signature if your lazy. We are a on first name basis in this chapter of da' Buick Brotherhood! Cheers, Edouard :beer
"SoCal72Skyark": Please put your name in your signature, we are all here on a friendly first name base :TU: Four door cars are cool Lt. Theo Kojak made the 4 drs A-body world famous  Is it a "regular" Skylark, a Skylark 350 or a Skylark Custom ? Production figures: Skylark: 4 drs sedan- 42,206 (combined with the Skylark 350 series) Skylark Custom: 4 drs sedan - 9,924 4 drs hardtop sedan - 12,925 At a car show here in the Netherlands I saw small stickers for sale, saying: 4 DOORS NO WAITING!! I will send you one when I spot them again :Smarty: There is a 4 drs 1972 Skylark in the 2012 film "Stand up guys" with Christopher Walken and Al Pacino: It's owned by a V8Buick board member:
