I'm back at the body shop school and I've been preparing these fenders and doors that I'm going to put on the car. There were a few minor dings and a patch panel had to be put on one of the fenders at the bottom, this has taken a few weeks to sort out. So finally I'm good to go, and primer is the next step. We're using ppg ncp-280 which costs a bunch, but the teacher says that it will be worth it so I don't have things coming back and biting me later. I put the fenders on stands, hang one door from a rack, and put one door on a small table in the primer booth. The teacher helps me set up the gun and takes off, he's going to look for a different one, since the gun is no good, but tells me to start, and it shoots, but not very much, kind of like a rattle can with a shitty tip, and it's spitting too. The primer formula is way too thick for the nozzle. So two pieces turn up no good and will have to be redone. We then thin out the primer with some thinner and it goes way better, I'm now on the door that is laying on the table. I shoot the outside and want to do the top and bottom, and I will have to move the table just a few inches so I don't have to stand in the middle of a puddle of water, it's on wheels... then the door slides off the table, it's on these metal racks I didn't think about, lands on a corner and bends it  . So this whole easy primer deal cost me a few days back work and some expensive primer for no good... aaaaaahhhhhh... Chalk it up as experience $ I guess :Dou:

And here's what I've learned from this:

    1. If i isn't working, stop doing it, and figure out why it isn't working. More harm than good.

    2. Be careful and pay attention, there is alot at stake if something is rushed. patience.

True of almost anything in life!

You'll get that door straightened out and your spray job will come out just fine.

Painting cars is something that you can't learn from reading or instruction....you just have to do it and hope the mistakes are bearable. There's always the next time to improve where you screwed up the last time. With the high cost of paint, trust me, you'll remember each one and learn be more careful. We all gotta start somewhere!:Dou:
