What and the heck is it?

I have found what I think is a nice Buick GS400. But no idea what year it is since I read the vin. How about some help here for a guy who does not know them well. The rear bumper goes all the way up to the trunk lid and has the tail lights in strips. The tar fenders say GS above the400 logo and the hood has 400 on each side of a power bulge hood with vents that feed a ram air air cleaner. The front fenders have yellow side markers.power windows, power brakes and from the looks of it a bench seat and column shifter. I will take a closer look at it this weekend but anyone know what the heck it is? And any hints as to what to look fire to find out the year? I do know it is about the size of a chevelle if that helps.

The 400 emblems on the ram air hood would indicate its a 1969

Yellow side markers though? Should be clear in front fenders, red on quarters with 400 on them, for a 69, iirc. Hood sounds 69 though, odd. What is VIN? That will tell a lot.

Jason, David, thanks for the info so far. The car has a dash rug on it so I can't read the vin, but I know that it needs loads of work. The paint job was done by some moron who should not be painting cars but might be a shoe in for doing spray in bed liners or painting trunks. I will get a better look at this beast in the day tomorrow to see how bad the bodyis and what it really is.might not be the car for me Cuz I would hate to cut up a rare car to make but might be agood spot for someone who wants to restore a Gs. I would hate to hotrod out a rare car.

I think the 68 has round side markers on the rear 1/4s and the 69 has rectangular with either 350 or 400 in the lens. The rear bumper should have the reverse light above the license plate if it is a 69(but bumper could be swapped between 68-69).
Multi level ram air hood say 69 (Again hoods can swap between 68-69)
Let us know where it is,as there is most likely a member local to you that could help you out.

Sorry John, I forgot to say where I am. The car is in Saint Petersburg Florida. My wife says we need a new hotrod, so I am looking at drop ping a an LS motor and 6 speed manual into something. Anything Chevy or BOP would fit the bill but not something collectible, that would just be wrong. This one at first glance looks complete, so if someone wants me to check it out let me know. If this one turns out to be a real numbers matching GS I am walking away from it.

68s have the old fashion vent wing windows, 69s do not.
I'd look on ebay or Craigslist to find both and see other differences.

If you see the back up light above the plate place and just below the trunk lid it shoud be a 69, that's the only year for that...

Assuming it has the original rear bumper. I see tons of 68/69 pics and the wrong year bumper or grille or hood, etc is on the car.

sounds like 69 -- but like the guys have already said - lots have parts swapped, Have seen many in magazines with lots of mixed parts and comsumer guides even have 68 skylark grille rather than GS grille.

The guy has two GS', the 69 needs to be stripped to bare sheet metal and has bubbles under the paint now. I could have done a better paint job with cans :then whoever painted it. He is asking $12k for a car that ness loads of work. He also has a 67 tag top, but I have not seen that one byt I am sure that the $20k he is asking is not even close to what it is worth. It is probablu another rust. Bucket.

Heck he has a 72 fake GTO clone that he wants $5k for that you can see the ground through the floor boards. I can give anyone who wants it the guys phone number but I am going to walk away, he is crazy and greedy.
