What car do you regret parting out?

Saw this post on another website. Pretty amazing what has been parted out over the years, some for the dumbest reason. #1 reason--Youth,lack of wisdom.

About 12 years ago, I parted a 67 GS400 4speed. Car was a bench seat car, and the only real option it had was Power Disc Brakes.
I bought it for $1000, but it had a badly wrecked drivers rear quarter panel.
I called Desert Dog, and a couple other Rust Free Western sheetmetal suppliers, and they all wanted $1500 for a full quarter cut off a car in the junkyard. I decided I wasn't willing to pay more for a quarter than I did for the whole car, so I parted it and scrapped it:Dou: Talk about stupid. Wish I would have put it in storage somewhere.
That would have been a neat Pure Stocker!:ball:

a buddy of mine bought a decent AAR Cuda, rocker and quarter rot, but complete.

he put the motor in a 66 Dart, sold the nose, doors and seat, and cut up the rest...........

Actually none. It was usually done so that another one of my projects could live on another day.
Now, where did I put that ZL1 short block...:spank:

Parted out a '69 Superbee. Green with white interior. Had a non-original 440, but the 4spd and the Dana 60 were there as well as the hood, doors, and all glass was spotless.
Other than that I've done in a few Novas, Camaros, and Firebirds, but nothing "really" special on any of those.

1970 Stage 1 hardtop. I kept the motor, rearend and muncie 4 speed, of which I still have the motor and rearend. I sold the trans to a guy at the gopher state Buick swapmeet about 10 years ago.

Not rusty, from South Dakota but hit in the rear.

Should have kept it whole and held on to it. The parts will eventually be used on my 70 Basketcase ragtop.

My 63 421 HO Catalina convertible. 4 speed, tripower, posi, 8 lugs....triple red interior, maroon exterior, white top. Daily driver, rusty quarter panels. Very fast, but smoked bad from the right bank. Had 2 replacement pistons in it, noticed that when we did the heads.

Needed a front clip for another very low mileage dark blue Ctalina conv that was hit up high. Transfrred the 8 lugs, and sold the complete drive train for $100. Had driven it to work the day before. R.I.P.

My first car : a 1971 skylark. It was the light green metalic with dark green vinyl top and dark green bench seat interior along with the brown trim on the bottom of every panel in the entire car. I bought it in 1985 and drove it for 3 memorable years. It had 163,000 miles on it when i bought the second 71 skylark. Used the first to put the second one together then scrapped it. Almost dropped the hammer on the twin to it on E-bay this last winter that was a 19,000 mile all original grandma owned. I guess I am rambling but those were some great memories in that car. It was my best friend. Nothing like your first one.

I parted a 71 W-30, gold with white vinyl top and white interior-the drivetrain and interior went to save a 72 of my brothers, but was a formal roof line cutlass, nothing special. it was cool when finished, but that 71 WAS NOT very damaged-needed 2 front fenders and a core support, no frame damage etc. I "saved" that W from a wrecking yard to begine with, and returned the body shell and frame to them, as part of the deal, once I had everything we wanted. wish I had it now!!:Do No:

    Well, not a car ....

1969 Chev. C10 396 CST (Custom Sport Truck),all original, black, buckets, console, TH400, A/C, guages, and all other available power & convenience options.

It was complete, just tired. I ran out of storage space while in college and took offers from a few people who wanted different parts. It would have been the perfect period-correct tow vehicle for my GS and any other GM muscle car. Never doin' that again.

I am 17 and have a 72' skylark. I hear all these stories about people mad that they sold their first one. I plan on keeping this car until I die. NO MATTER WHAT!!! I love it too much.

With all these premium cars having been parted out.....I hope care was taken to ensure the parts were not used for clones!

    Oh, the humanity!:ball:

I forgot to add in my post about the 63 421HO convertible, that I had it for sale in the Lansing State Journal and every bulletin board at Oldsmobile for $225 before the decision was made to part it out. That was without the 8 lugs, but had the steelies and dog dishes from the other 63. Super clean 54k car, just smoked and had rusty quarter panel skins (floors and frame were mint). I didn't even get an offer on it, needed a front clip, radiator, etc. for my other one, and the $100 offer for the drive train was enough to put it over the top. Sad.

Anybody know how to get a jpg from an 8 mm movie or a VHS? I have a great pic of that car that I had at the top of the fliers at work. Also the Vette below.

Had 9 cars including my 60 Vette (which became my daily driver (good weather) and a group of 60-61 Impalas at the time. All the 442/Cutlasses (50-60 of them) came after that. About half were 64-67's.

Clones? How about tribute car. Resurrection car. Replica, etc. etc.

I did sell most of the parts from the 69 Superbee I parted out to a guy who was restoring one with no title and needed my title and VIN tags. I was actually stubborn enough to verify that he had an actual Superbee and was not making a clone before I released the paperwork to match the sheetmetal. One died so another could live on.

My dad (I didn't own the car) didn't part it out, but the guy we sold it to did. The car: 69' Pontiac GP Model J, 428 HO, 3spd. The 3spd was the Ford - whoops - DEARBORN top-loader as listed in the manuals. I was just in high school at the time. The trans did have a big FoMoCo embossed on the side of the tranny when we took it out for a M20 or M21 out of a 69' Camaro. We bought the car used in late 78' for $400; we sold it in 10/84 for $850. We just did not have room to keep it - and I as a HS kid just didn't fight much to try to keep it.
The guy we sold it to was into GTOs; I saw the car a year after we sold it at a football game at my old HS. I remember tapping the roof stating, "I'll track you down someday." Needless to say, the drivetrain was pulled and the car scrapped about 1 month after I last saw it. :ball: :ball: :ball:
Oh, the car was 1 of 3 built with the HO engine and 3spd. All were Model Js. I have since found out that one was wrecked and scrapped in about 82' and the other - is still out there.

I might add - I did track down the guy we sold the car to and informed him of the rarity; then he didn't feel to good. The thing was is that the engine (unopened, with about 75k on it) never went in anything. I say to him, "If you need to sell it, CALL ME!" He sold the engine out from under me. :spank: :spank:
I found out about the rarity and the fate of the car in 1990. It took me 12 years to find one of the 94 M20 4spd HO cars.

1965 Malibu SS327. Light blue, black bucket seat/console interior. Was a former drag car but the body was arrow straight and no rust. The owner bought the car new in 1965, drove it one year then went racing. Was always stored indoors. It only had 22,000 on the clock when I bought it in 1978. I bought it minus the engine. I dismantled it and started to clean and blast the past away in hope of making this into a BRACKET RACER.
I had a freak injury, and after some emergency surgery, the doctors told me I would never be able to pick up anything heavy, or do work above shoulder level ever again. In a panic, I parted out the SS.
Sold off most of the parts including all the NOS trim/mouldings/emblems in factory wrappers that I had accumulated. I sold the carcass to a guy who collected '65 Chevelles and he owned a Z16 SS396 '65 Malibu that he drag raced here in Michigan complete with cut out rear wheel arches.
Ironically, this was the ONLY car I ever MADE money on when I sold it!:Dou:

In 1977, I also traded a 1968 302 Cougar for a 1968 440 GTX. The GTX was a 4 speed 4.10 Dana S/S spring car. Red with black top and black console interior. Disc brakes, PS, in-dash tach. I traded the GTX for a set of Crager S/S rims and Formula 1 tires for my Nova SS. Double :Dou: :Dou:
