What color are the inserts on the Buick rims? Were they black, or a silver color? Mine are all faded badly. Also, what would be the best approach at re-painting them? Masking tape and a spray can? Thanks.

    Paint

I have a set of those on my Skylark...backgroung is blk...scuff the paint with steel wool, masking tape and spray can will be fine...if you have some chips or flakes out of the paint you may want to use a primer that has filler content in it...it should fill in missing flakes...let dry...I have been using a black trim paint (used on moulding trim for late model cars) this paint provides a nice satin finish that looks very professional and dries quite fast...make you sure have adequate ventillation...I have been told that the chemicals used in this trim paint is bad for your lungs. Good luck

Buick used a dark grey metallic color on some of the earlier big car wheels. They look good black too.

the way i have always repainted those sections on my wheels is a little different...I mask off the outside circle and remainder of the rim...then I run some tape up the center of each spoke (but not really masked off to the edges). Have some paint solvent (nail polish remover works well if you are stuck!) and lint free cloth. Then I spray the paint in, and pull the tape on the spokes off right away....put your finger into the cloth and soak in solvent, you can go around the edges and wipe off the extra before the paint hardens.

Make sure to buy some surgical gloves for this, no point absorbing anything into your system.

It also works really well for detail items, like the 70 style hood scoop inserts. Spray the black and then wipe the paint off the chrome raised sections. No masking needed!!
