I have about 3g's and wondering if i should paint the car first, or rebuild the motor.
The clear is gone on the paint and a key scratch from tip to tail on the passenger side.
The motor runs okay (300 2bbl). It's got good pick up but tap coming from rusty exhaust manifolds. Just bought a TH350 for $20 out of a 70 Cutlass.
I don't know what to do first...if i do the exterior, i am going to have to find all the seals, window felts, new bumpers, etc.

Or finally...do i save more $$$ and do it all at once???? I am afraid if i wait i will end up married or some other devastating situation which will put it further away. :Do No: :Comp:

Take care of the body on the car, engines can always be replaced later.

I would pick up all the seales and things that are needed for a great paint job first, then leave the rest for the best paint job deal you can get.

Find a shop that has done work on friends cars that came out well.

Thanks for the input. I was on the fence about it. My childhood friend owns a bodyshop w/his dad. They have been there for over 30 years. He is willing to cut me a serious break. They have done a few cars for corvette magazine.

So I am sure it will be a nice paint job. I am going with artic silver.

Well, I will have to say that the mechanics should be done first because if you do the body work first the fresh paint ect, will be damaged doing the mechanics. especialy the window and door mechanics. The under hood mechanics and under car mechanics can take their toll also. When you do the mechanics first and then do the body then you know that the body will not be damaged. :Brow:

I have to agree with Doc. You shouldn't put off the body too long to avoid it getting worse, but all it takes is one slip installing a motor and leaning over the fenders during break-in to scratch a pretty new paint job and make you sick.

Absolutely do the mechanicals first....and get it all worked out long before you do the body work. My upper fenders ar not lookin fresh after yanking the heads and intake a few times AFTER the bosy work was done. Car and motor were originally done at the same time :Dou: but gremlins forced alot of work on to be done.....even with fender covers and being careful it took its toll
