I coated the entire underside of my 63 skylark with por15 the last couple of days. Today I installed the front crossmember and the rear differential. She's finally back on wheels!
Mounted the new Hoosier slicks, 28x10.5x15. Plenty of clearance all around. Looking for 1-2 tenths off my 60ft over the 275 nitto drag radials
Started working on a grill resto for the Sea Foam Coupe. 68 intake almost ready to paint. Blast cab workout!
Transmission disassembled for Refresh. Was initially only swapping my repaired clutch fork and a new throw out bearing. Pulled bearing retainer since I noticed what I thought was excessive play in front bearing and come to find a broken ball retainer on the backside of the bearing. Piece of the bearing was on the magnetic drain plug.
Drove the Riv to a little local show. Hung out with some like minded friends and shot the chit with Richard L getting his take on Mcacn
Had some lunch time errands to run today. Since I was working at home, I took the GS400. Plan on using it tomorrow, too!
Well, I had an apparent leak in my radiator around the neck and a couple spots on the tanks. So I installed a new to me (slightly used) radiator. Drain and install yesterday. And shaking down tranny line leaks today. So far so good!
Actually did something. Stripped the old carpet out, sanded and primed the dash. Getting that front bench out solo was an effort. Paint dash Friday, new pad and reassemble Saturday. Carpet once I get some sound deadening down. Since the carpet wasn't original, I wasn't expecting to find a build sheet. Found an OK tag from Fremont, a '66 penny and a '75 dime. Who said there wasn't money in old cars?
Yesterday I changed the passenger side front wheel cylinder, and of course had to put new brake shoes on it. The wheel cylinder was barely a year old. Chinese junk! Today I’ll finish cleaning up all the mess on the inside of the wheel and around the associated parts on the front end. Brake fluid and dust should make a big nasty mess!
Its been Sooooo cold I aint done nothing to any of the cars in the last week. Got this 08 Lucerne that needs my attn. End of the week its supposed to get back up into the 70's. Plan is to do a heater core flush and replace the valve cover gaskets. While its apart swap the plastic coolant elbows with the upgraded alumn parts. Hope after that the heater works. Other stuff is the construction of the engine run stand. Was moving it with the fork lift last week and it fell off. One of the parts landed on the back side of the radiator which looks to have made a couple of holes. Probably drop that off at one of the last known repair shops in the area to get soldered up. Saturday I was taking service calls due to the cold weather and the sprinter (diesel) would not start. Drained the battery trying to get her to fire off. As a last resort disconnected the air intake hose, which cracked in the cold, and shot some eather into it. That did the trick. Next couple of mornings an hour before I was set to leave took a garage heater out there and let it run blasting up under the engine. Fired off like it was summer day. I hate the cold!
You’re just like me, I lift the covers now and then just to look at them and remind myself I own something special.
If you know, you know. Lol. Lots of debugging today (have a vapor lock thread) time to cool the distributor and hydrate so it’ll start again. Special Thanks to all that’s helped me in that thread. Still more to figure out but at least I know what the issue is now. No spark
Polishing the hood on the Survivor, getting 50 yrs old paint to shine as much as it can, and trying to keep the mess to a minimum.
It’s got it’s scratches, bumps and bruises, I can’t risk using compound on it afraid of going too deep, but a good machine polishing helps a little, it is what it is I keep telling myself. I’m very fortunate the original owner loved this car. Here’s what I used.
