What do I need to replace my Z28's 350 with a BBB-455?

Hi, I was wondering if anyone could tell me what I'd need to put a 455 in my 1978 Z28. It's a factory 4-speed car with the original 4-speed Borg-Warner T-10 transmission. Currently has the factory 350 engine (a whopping 185HP).

I'd love to put a 455 in there. Even with a mild build, the weight would be almost the same and I could double the HP and probably triple the TQ with just a mild build on an engine.

I've seen the BOP bellhousings, #9778882. Is this the correct bellhousing that I'd need to put on the trans to bolt up a 455? Also, what else would I need to do? Thanks.

My first thought was a SBC 421 or 434. Then I was thinking about a modern 6.0 or 6.2 out of a Chevy truck with L92 heads.

But I have a 1976 455 just sitting in my garage. It's got all the accessories and brackets. All I would need is a stock bottom end, a decent set of heads and a nice cam with an Edelbrock intake possibly and some headers.

And presto, instant go-fast Z28. Combine the trans with a 3.08 rearend with rear discs I can pick up for dirt cheap, and I'd have a great cruiser.

What you need is the ability to "make it work". There is a guy on the board that has a 71-72 camaro with a twin turbo 455, "skymaro" may be his ID...maybe he will chime in...

I cant help you with your question, but I would LOVE to see it when your done! Its kind of cool to see the reverse happen( Buick motor in a Chevy).

    Hey

I be second to say stay with the stock Chevy 350 with hidden modifications. If its an original 78 Z28 with 4 speed, not many around! Keep it original!!!!!
