I have a '65 Skylark with the 300 engine (2 Barrel) and ST300 tranny. Heres the plan:

    Get a Holly 500cfm carburetor or a 600 if I can find a 4 barrel intake
    Raise compression to 11:1
    Get a Crower Cam w/ .488/.501 lift
Change ignition from points to electronic
    Get Poston Headers
Get a TH350 w/ 2300-2800 stall (not sure on the stall, input please)
    Change rearend gears to 3.55

This combo seems almost too simple but I don't know what other performance options I have, exept the ones I can't afford (fabrications).

Sounds like it'ld be a fun little car to drive! With such big cam in such a small motor you way want alittle more gearing.
What are the rest of the specs on that cam?

Would recommend having dual exhaust made up.

The only 4 bbl intake manifold that will fit your engine is from a 1965 300. Sometimes, they are hard to find.

Postons stopped making 300/340 headers a couple of years ago. No other alternatives that I know about.

The more you upgrade your ignition, the better.

Keep in mind that 11:1 compression needs a racing fuel mix to control the pinging. If your intending this to be a street car, you make that your lowest priority.

    Cam info:

    112* lob center
    220* 226* duration at .050
    .488" intake .501" exhaust

There was a 300 block that came with 11:1 compression so I figured it would be ok. Maybe I'll find some 10:1 pistons. I know someone who can fabricate parts so maybe I can get him to make headers and an intake for me. I'm glad I posted this, I thought I was just about done finding parts.

You are correct in that the 300 Buick in one year (64) could be had with 11 to 1 compression. However, remember that back then , you could buy 100 plus octane fuel at the pump as well.
Not so today. You could have some headers fabbed up, but I doubt you'll find anybody to just fab you up an intake.
Check with Poston's again on the headers, I think I heard that they were going to reintroduce the 300/340 headers. Jim Burek
