I think this thing is very light but I want to know the number. As I built it I tried to weigh everything but I forgot a few items. I was hoping some of you guys could help me with the weights of a few things. Here's what I have so far...

Block with caps and studs 173
    crankshaft/balanced 65
TA AL heads w/valves and springs 64
    head studs 5
    SPX intake 25
    rockers 10
    pistons and aluminum rods 16
    timing cover w/oil pump 10
    distributor 3
    water pump 4
    oil pan 8
    misc. fasteners 4
    flexplate 8
    Romac AL harmonic balancer 6
    cam ?
    solid lifters 3
    stock valve covers 4
    rollmaster timing set ?
    carb 10
    shorty headers ?
    fuel pump 1.5
    pushrods ?

So far that's 419.5 lbs. can anyone fill in the missing numbers?

man it's hard to believe a BBB can be that light. Anyone have weights on the cam, timing set, fuel pump, headers?

616 lbs is what the Buick 455 weighs. 60 lbs saved with aluminum heads, another 40lbs with aluminum intake, figure 516 lbs, pretty light if I do say so myself.

Just weighed a stage 1 style pump for you, 1.5lbs.

You have saved 100 lbs with aluminum parts, the shortys over the stock cast iron manifolds gotta save 20 lbs, so I'd say you will be 490 all up. 1 pound per cubic inch almost...:)

I will be putting an engine together shortly (stock heads/intake/exh manifolds) so will update this thread at that time for a stocker engine.

Question too, when you say oil pan is 8 lbs does that include the bolts? Also weight of Pushrods? You have rockers but does that include shafts? Long or short waterpump?

Absolutely, 516 is light. If I haven't forgotten some major parts, mine is significantly under that. My block is bored to 4.348, not sure how much iron was removed there, aluminum rods, pistons are light and were machined to be even lighter. Then they removed quite a bit from the counterweights to balance the light bob weight. Not sure how much was saved there. I didn't count accessories or pulleys as of yet. What does the 616 include?

Thanks for weighing the pump. That was just the oil pan. I took a guess on the other fasteners at 4 lbs. Good catch, I need to add the pushrods. comp cams 3/8 chromoly 9.600" ? The rockers include the whole assembly as it came from TA. Water pump is short shaft I believe.

I wonder what the difference is between the stock exhaust manifolds and a set of TA shorty headers is? I know when my motor was hanging from the cherry picker it looked like the breeze was moving it, LOL, well maybe that's stretchin it a little. :Brow:
