I'm certain that Canadian built cars had the firewall painted body color, just not sure how long this practice went, perhaps til the end of the Canada/US Auto Pact in the late 60's. :Do No: If your car was American built, then firewall sould be GM black (I think that's the color).

The trunk area I'm not certain about.

A HA! Thanks, will go to bed a little smarter then when I woke up. Yes it is a Oshawa built car! It also has a 4 bbl...I thought it HAD to be taken off a 65 but i was told that the canadian plants were responsible for using up all the left overs from the US. Therfore may be the real deal.

    Thanks.

    Happy Thanks Giving.

Thanks, Happy Turkey Day to you as well Michel :TU: :beer

I checked my 64's trunk and it has been redone sometime in its past with a spackle like finish, perhaps moreso to hide repairs to the pan.

Are you aware that you can contact GM Vintage Car Services for information about your car?? There is of course, a fee for this service. Check it out. :TU:

I don't know about the Canadian built cars using leftover US parts, but with the Canada/USA auto pacts in place at the time, who knows. :Do No:

I had a 67 Malibu SS that was built in Canada. I know for certain that Chevelles had the firewalls and trunks painted the body colour. The exception were the SS396's which had a black firewall. This doesn't really help you for your Skylark but I would think all GM's would have been finished the same. I would go for body colour in trunk and firewall. IMHO body colour finish looks much better than spackle, however it will cost a lot more as more finishing work will have to be done.

my car was built in fremont but imported to the buick dealer in claresholm alberta.
since the car was sold in canada, gm oshawa has the car history. i ordered that and here is what u get - a listing on gm letterhead with vehicle make/model, vin, trim code, paint codes + colours, production plant, production date, shipping date, model#, engine, delaer and the options descriptions + codes on the vehicle and the ama engineering specifications form for the vehcile.
    worth the money.
