What happened to me on my V8 Buick vacation ....

This past Monday I was told that my job was "no longer necessary." Yep - - I got the boot, after 13 years. :af: I haven't NOT worked since I was 14, so this is a kick in the nutz, but I'll get through it.

So for some un-adulterated solicitation .... If anyone has got some work that they need done on their cars, I've got a hoist, tools, and time ...... :bglasses:

I'm working with a fellow PS racer on his engine right now. I'm also good with manual steering box rebuilds and restorations. What have you got that I can help you out with ?? :TU:

That really sucks. Been there so know the s***** feeling. I had 23 years, but fortunately enough time and years to retire and walk away. Glad I did as they're going bankrupt now.

Biggest thing to get behind you is it's not your fault. You'll always second guess what you might have done, not said, etc. and the "counselling" they provide doesn't help that as they convince you that you need to change to get a new job. They know who pays their bills.

From what I've seen of my friends and associates that didn't get the ax 4 years ago, they're more miserable than ever, and always under the threat that they're next. Rumors now of Ford taking back some of the areas that were spun off, and hopes are high that they'll get back under the umbrella. Unfortunately, though, they'er starting over as far as salaries and benny's at that time.

3 of my friends my age have passed away in the last 6 months. 2 avoided the layoffs, and the third had retired just before the split. Too bad they never got a chance to enjoy their retirement.

Will send anything your way I can hear of.

Sorry to hear your news. You strike me as the kind of guy that's gonna' land on his feet, so good luck with your new career. :TU:

I've had some luck too, I busted my leg last Wednesday on some ice. How good are you with that hoist and those tools -- can you reuild me? Make me better than I was? Better. Stronger. Faster... [insert bionic theme music]

That does suck. I've been through it myself and in hindsight it might have been a blessing in disguise. Otherwise I probably never would have been able to pay off my ex-wife (divorce judgement) and get the engine in my W-31 rebuilt. I'm not sure of the job market in Michigan, but the Chicago area is opening up, specifically IT which is the field I'm in. Good Luck Casey and if you want to make a trip I could use some help with my W-31. Lots and lots of little things I need to do.

    Sorry to hear that Casey,
You're not alone though, lots of us out there in the same boat.
Beth and I both became gainfully unemployed in Dec. when my family's business went under the water line. Beth was there for about 6 years and I had 22 on the books.
Since then I've managed to pick up a gig running a press for someone else and Beth is doing typesetting off the dining room table.
Get yourself out there and throw resume's around like confetti and something will come up.

    Stay positive
    &
    Good Luck :TU:
