What is a good price for a rebuild on my 66 SP400 Transmission, I have gotten prices from $800.00 to 1500.00. The $800.00 is out the door because he said that is is the same thing as a TH400 but it is Buick's marketing name for that transmission, I am having a hard time trying to figure the problem due to the fact of my Handicap, It is hard for me to be climbing under the car and standing back up while on a creeper due to the fact that my legs and left hip do not work very well, Plus I can't stand for long periods at a time, (jeesh this is sounding like a pity story!) This is what I get for riding a motorcycle and getting run over by a Tractor trailer on the highway. BUT ON THE BRIGHT SIDE......... I would have never gotten into the hobby of Buicks! I always try and find the "SILVER LINING" in life :)

    try the little shops
    or older tranny shops
most of them you need to get it out
but the price might be right
    i also have 2 nailhead tranny's here
one i would sell as a rebuilder and that is a 66 tranny
the other is a 64 tanny
    they are differnt
    wish i was closer
i would be under there getting it out with you and we could swap war stories on our akes and pains

    Thank you

Greg, Thanks anyway! :TU: The Problem I have here living in this part of Pa is that all the "BIG" Tranny franchises have pushed the "MOM AND POP" Shops out of Biz! The Smaller shops I found they do not know about the Super Turbine 400 so I am kinda of stuck with going with them if it comes down to it, But I am still looking!!
Once again Thanks for the offer :)

Don a couple of us at the NE picnic spent an hour or so talking with Frank about how he and his brother rebuilds them. He's a real easy guy to talk with.

I know mine will be going to him. If you would like to call him (856) 829-1460 extension 139 should be the number for their transmission shop which I understand to be in the greater Phildelphia area.

You were right about him, A very nice Man that knows his stuff and is very helpful! I was begining to think I would never find someone who knew about the S/P 400. Also Their Prices are very Fair unlike some of the other shops :puzzled: :af: :Brow:

I do not think those prices are out of line. I have seen much higher quotes here in Mass. Alos with the big chains they often do the old presto chango swapping out your trans for one already built. Many a rare muscle car trans was lost this way. I know of a w-30 convertible that had a Pontiac 4 door turbo 400 in it becase of this practice. Make sure you get your trans back.
