What is the date of your certification label?

Does anyone have information regarding how GM determined the date for the certification label that is placed on the inside of the driver door next to the door latch? The certification label identifies the VIN and gives a date in the upper right hand corner. The certification label reads " This vehicle conforms to all federal motor vehicle safety standards in effect on the date of the manufacturer shown above".

My 1970 Skylark GS's build date on the build sheet is April 1970, the cowl tag shows 4A and the certification label is marked 8/70. Why the four month difference between the build date and the certification label date?

Is this common? Does anylone else have a cerification label date that is different then the build or cowl tag dates?

Any insight as to why the dates are staggered would be helpful and interesting to know.

    Thanks,
    Philip

    Somethings wrong there.

Must be a typo (boo-bo from the factory), or that isn't the original door from the factory. :Do No:

You do know they make repro decals too, someone could have screwed that up then too. What is the history of the car? :bglasses:

Mike...how do you go about stamping the VIN and build date on those stickers? My first guess would be to use a typewriter. Any better ideas? Both of my cars are missing those stickers.

Used a typewriter that printed dark and then used a peice of tape from a bed protection roll (clear) over it on a car I fixed recently.

When I bought the first one I got hat was from Jim Osbourne, they suggested I make a few pieces of paper to practice with in a typewriter so you could know where to line up the sticker when you were ready to type on your blue sticker. They also suggested using carbon paper to make it darker, but I am not sure that it would stick to this sticker too well.Thats why I got 3 from Mike, as I screw things up mighty easily....lol
