:Comp: I was searching through the sanctioning bodies(NHRA and IHRA) for the class "TOP STOCK",but didn't see any reference of this class.Out of curiousity, what is Top Stock, and which sanctioning body recognizes this? What are the specs for Top Stocko No: ...may Mr.Tom Rix will chime in?Thanks,Jay B.Britt,Jr.
I don't mean to step in front of Mr. Tom Rix. If he chooses to answer, he is by far the expert. But here is my take: Top Stock was created by a few A, B, and C Stock racers as a heads up alternative to "class racing" (bracket racing). The idea was that the A guys could add weight, the C guys could remove weight, and they could all run heads-up, no breakout. They picked a hp/wt ratio using NHRA/IHRA factors and went at it. Over time it grew to include some combinations not generally accepted as "stock" eligible, for the sake of broadening the field and making a better show (i.e. Stage 2 Buicks). However, all of that turned into a mess, so it went back to just accepted "Stock" combinations. It ran at IHRA Nat'l events for one or two seasons. It never ran at NHRA National Events, but the individual divisions can still run it if they choose. I think Div. 1 (Northeast) still runs it. It was really cool to watch. Especially when the "race to the 9's" was going on in Stock. These guys threw everything they had at those cars to get the 9's. I think by the time the class died, they were in the 9.40's. That is really what Pro Stock started out as. It's great to watch. Have fun.
Thanks,to ALL that responded...that's what I want my car to be when it GROWS UP!!:TU: :TU: :TU: Jay B.Britt,Jr.
