What kind of oil for 1967 TH400?

Service time for the upcoming summer, and I wonder what kind of oil I’m supposed to put into my th400 from 1967?
    (And how much?)

Would be a different type if it would be another age on it?
-I’m thinking on the facts it’s a switch pitch – perhaps special oil for them?

(I’m embarrassed to say that I haven’t checked closer on the car yet, just know that it’s a new Edelbrock or Holley carburetor and they haven’t connected the SP electronic to it. But it’s supposed to be the original th400)

    Thanks :)

Any regular Dexron III compatible fluid off the shelf will work. The amount you need will depend. Is the transmission and converter completely dry for the most part, or has there just been some fluid loss due to a filter change?

Some have recently talked about the Dexron III, that it’s more meant for modern transmissions with electronics and not so good for the older models – will endup with problems. Guess it’s not correct?

There is no loss for the moment; I’m planning to change the filter. In the younger days I did this oilchange in two steps. Empty most of the oil, change filter, fill up, drive so the new and oil mixes, then empty the mixed oil and in with more new oil…
-not the most economic way but it gave a feeling that there should be new oil even in the converter after that. :)

Thinking on buying a tool for my compressor which sucks out the oil, but I don’t know if its manages to pick up the oil in the converter anyway.

The Dexron III is considered "backwards compatible", meaning it will work fine for earlier versions of Dexron as well. It's what I use in my '67 ST400 also.

    Okay, Dexron III.
    But what about fabrication then?

I will go for Quaker State 10-40 mineral for my rebuilt engine.
    - But I don’t know what brand for my TH400.

    Quaker State or perhaps Valvoline,
    -what do you others prefer/recommend/use?

    Thanks

I use the least expensive Dexron III compatible trans fluid available off the shelf. I can buy it here in U.S. Gallon quantities making it even more more affordable.
