My '65 Skylark has a 2-speed transmission. Pardon my lack of knowledge regarding this, but is it a "power-glide" and if so is it also called a Muncie? Help this poor soul educate himself ... thanks!!
your transmission is a Super turbine 300 and it is similar to a powerglide but better. it has a variable pitch torque converter that allows for a higher stall speed when idling and when the throttle is more than halfway depressed. a muncie is a manual transmision
The Super Turbine 300 (or ST-300) was used from 1964 to 1969 More info at :http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Turbine_300
68-69 St300 transmissions did not have the variable pitch feature . only 64-67 had the variable pitch option. 68 and 69 were simply a 2 speed transmissionwith fixed stall.
Thanks very much and I appreciate the link too! Now, my next question is which pan gasket to get and where? I'd like to make sure I get the right one from the start. I've got a slight (very slow) leak that I'd like to fix.
