Where have you seen .001 main bearings? I'd like to see about them.

Anybody got a part number? I've been searching but not finding anything. I've even searched for Jeep since Buick 350s were put in them.

It's together and holds excellent oil pressure with the stock spring. I took the Stage 1 spring out as it was pegging the gauge at idle cold. Now she holds 20-25psi at hot idle and comes up with RPM well.

    I know I know, a 2 year old reply.
    I want to know also..
I'm under the understanding that the huge 3.25 BBB mains was the main reason to run the the tolerances tight to squeeze the oil over the large circumference plus the rods which gets oiled after the cam? Oiling mods or not.

Does the SBB have the same issues as far as how the oil flows through the block? Is it because of the external oiling pump maby?

As far as the oil passages between the 350/455, they’re the same.
BUT, the mains on the 350 are 2.9999” so they’re easier to oil AND transfer oil to the rods verses the 455’s 3.25” mains, if Buick wasn’t breaking cranks on the pre production 455 back in the day as the mains on that crank WERE 3.0” they then increased the main diameter to 3.25 and they stopped breaking cranks, BUT they invited other issues by doing this.
As far as the external pump, they’re the same (455 has deeper gears) those deeper 455 gears are what the 350 uses for the Hi Volume pump.
But in a nutshell, the 350 suffers the same symptoms as the 455 as far as lower hot idle pressure than other V8’s of that era, BUT, they’re not nearly as critical as the 455’s issues due to the 455’s 3.25” mains

Never realized that the mains on a SBB are that big at just about 3 inches.

Buick wasn’t having any issues with 350 cranks breaking, that in combination with the deep skirt block made for a VERY stout block and bottom end, it’s too bad that Buick and the after market did not devote more time (especially Buick) to advancing the 350’s performance, the durability was there, but not much support.
