I am thinking about rebuilding my turbo 400 in my 69 gs.
I heard that bm shift kits go hard between 1st - 2nd, and tci goes hard between 2nd and 3rd.
I want a bit more bite. I am not sure what kit I have. But third sucks in my car.

I am having problems with the the car with 1st to 2nd gear. It jumps back and forth between the two like it doesn't know weather to stay in 2nd or go back to 1st while being in DRIVE. This occurs when I am very light on the pedal. It also some time shifts so fast from 1st to 3rd its like there is no 2nd gear. If I get into the pedal a bit the car shifts to second already by 30mph. Also when being in the pedal a bit it has no grab between second and 3rd, almost just slides right in.

I checked to fluid and it was way low. I added 2 quarts. One problem went away. (the hole jumping back into 1st from second went away) I am still having a problem with the car shifting in drive from 1st -2nd -3rd. Still almost no 2nd gear.

    ANY Suggestions

Is the kickdown hooked up, and is it working? Is the modualtor adjustable?

I've had good luck with TransGo as well. My current setup is a hybrid of TransGo's kit and some advice from an old hydramatic engineer. 1-2 will knock your teeth out and I can get rubber between 2-3 when I let it wind up, and that's with almost eleven inches of tread and 1000 lbs over each rear tire.

If anything it's overkill and the next time around I'll be detuning the trans a bit...hitting that hard breaks parts when you get traction.

It's most likely the vacuum modulator. This has happened to me in other cars. Same exact symptom. A very easy fix. Good luck. John.:TU:
