What Should I do (65 RiV)

Guys any suggestions? I bought a 65 Riviera that I thought I would have time to restore for my daughter. I don't usually make mistakes with cars but I blew
it on this one. The car had more rust than I thought. The rust is located on the front floors and under the front seats including the seat braces. The frame is in good shape. Also around the bottom front cowl and around the rear window. The car is complete and I drove it and it actually tracked quite nice. The trans leaks but shifts ok and the engine runs, but a bit rough. The car was verde green with a black cloth interior, power seats, windows , air, 425 . I cut the floors out and gutted the interior ,stripped the seats of the cloth. I bought the floor pans needed and rockers from Classic Fabrication, a rug and vinyl seat cover repros, but I think for a 64, headliner , from CARs in Neshanic Station NJ. The car is all there. Front bumper is straight and grill is also. The rear bumper is kinked slightly . All body panels are there, but slightly wavy. My problem is of course I would like to get most of my money back out of the car and buy my daughter a decent presentable driver.
I just don't have the time and time it is to even do a cheezy restore. Here is the question .
Do you think I should sell it outright lock, stock and barrel, or should I part her out. I paid 2,000 for the car and have probably over a 1,000 in parts.
most still in boxes. Any suggestions would help.

Tough question. Much as I hate to say it, you probably ought to bail out now. As you probably already know, it is really expensive to restore these cars. As an alternative to parting the car, why not try to sell it (along with the parts) on Ebay? Never tried it myself but parting out a car seems like a lot of work too with all the packaging/shipping etc. If you do decide to part it let me know, I might be interested in some things.

    Good luck,

    Thanks

Greg, Thanks for the reply and advise. I am still debating what to do. By the way I love your hometown but for only short periods at a time. :beer :bglasses:

    425?

If the car has a 425 and it's original you may have a GS which ups the anti considerably. 425 was standard in '64 but 401 was the base in '65. You seem to have plenty of cars to play with so I'd suggest you sell it as a package. It will take a lot of time to part the car, list things for sale and you'll have to decide when to scrap what doesn't sell. Probably more of your time involved in that than making it into a runner.

If you put in the floor boards and reinstall the interior you can sell it as a restoration project. Floor boards scare people, seat covers aren't that difficult to install. I suggest you take care of those 2 items and you'll probably get the highest price for what you have.

    Thanks

Thanks for the advise. Unfortunately it's not a Gran Sport, but a well optioned Riviera. I will post some pics when I get a chance.

    Big Easy

Greg, Just got back from the Big Easy yesterday. Sunday and Monday the weather was fantastic . Tuesday was looking promising ,but had to catch the flight. Never made it to the Jazz Fest , I was too busy at the Acme Oyster House . How do you get any work done down there?
