running a 72' BBB 455, and currently have a failed 76' Caddy th400 longtail. If a cheap one is to pop up, what years, have the long tailshaft, and what will tell me that it will bolt to a BOP and not a chevy? Also is there any way of visually, and/ or physically being able to tell whether a tranny is at least in half decent shape? I really wouldnt think there is but I thought I'd ask. thanks, Baker
I believe long shaft 400s started in 69, maybe 70. Chevy bellhousing is shaped like a house, with a peak at the top and vertical sides. The BOP bellhousing has a valley at the top with the highest points being the two top most bolts. About the only thing you can do is inspect the fluid for color and smell it to see if it smells burnt.
