I don't want to spend an arm and a leg (anything worthit under $300?) but I do want a stall of 2800-3000 stall. The th400 does have a good rebuild with nice shift kit but the owner prior to me made a mistake of putting the stock stall back in. The car has 3.73's with TA 280 Cam and 850 Holly 455 .30 over. The are a lot more TA parts but I thought that would be enough for my anwser. The car also is pushed around 470HP and 560TQ. Again I don't want to spend a lot but do want something that should not break. I also don't plan on drag racing at the track but I want something that I can have fun on the street, drivable, and reliable.

A converter is something you should have built for your application.Yes,there are your typical converters in Summit/Jeg's,but those are a vague application,& mostly intended for your typical smallblock Chevy. There are a variety of companies that can make you a converter,& the price will depend on exactly what is in it,or what they suggest.I've had some nice converters built by PTC,Coan, and Continental. It's not so much the HP that will break a converter,it's the torque.Your cheaper converters will not have as many features,& might not stand up to your power output. If you break your converter, you will also need to have your trans redone,as it can send junk through there,so your money saved is now not.

Do you plan on any interstate driving??? If so, 3000 stall and 3.73 gears will kill your mileage. I would suggest 2200 stall....stock is 1700-1800.

I prob. won't be doing much interstate driving at most 30-40 miles. Mainly this car will be around town. I really was thinking about a 2800 stall? I know B and M make a Holeshot 2400 that they claim is good for big block motors because they acutally stall at 2600-2800. Any advice? I have to order a converter either today or early tomarrow as I am leave to Honduras for a week and my mechanic is checking everthing out and he was pulling the tranny to inspec everything so now is the time. Remember that I am not going to the track but want to have a good deal on something that should hold up to the 560tq

The torque converter is a very important part of your combination. If you don't have a lot of money to spend on it, wait until you do. You get what you pay for with converters. What you want is a converter that is built tight for street driving, but stalls to where you need it to when you romp on it. That cost money. Forget a catalog converter, penny smart, dollar foolish is no way to buy a converter. Save up and have one built, you won't regret it.

There are not many cars used the torque converter, because the power train of it is inefficient. What is your car ? :spank:
