Hi What transmission will be best for street use to Skylark 68, with 350-4BBL to replace with my old one ? I think ST300 which i got dont work as it need to work. When im put gas pedal to the floor, car dont start fast. I hear that engine have raise RPM fast, but car start with delay with normal speed. First i think that can be problem with carburetor, but it was fixed, also ignition was checked, and adjust for 10. Mechanic from carburtors tell me that can be problem with transmission. So i dont know what will be better - try to reprair this ST300, or maybe buy some used other transmission (TH350, TH400, or maybe other) ?
If your leaving the car stock or just some mild mods I would just have the ST300 fixed. Check the that everything is working ok before you commit to a rebuild. Is the trans fluid up to full when hot? Should be a nice reddish pick colour and no burnt smell.
On hot working engine fluid in transmission is full, maybe even little to much. I found here in Poland TH350 which comes from El Camino '77. Will it fit with no problems, and modifications to install in 350 Skylark '68 ?
No, the Chevy engine bolt pattern is different than the Buick-Oldsmobile-Pontiac engine bolt pattern. The bell housing is different on the El Camino transmission.
I found TH350 which is from Skylark 1970. Will it fit to my '68 with no problems, or need to make some mods? Thanks for help!
Yes it will fit with no problems. I don't know about the kick-down cable on the st-300 but the TH350 has one that goes from the transmission to the gas pedal. Someone here can help with that part. Is it a known good transmission? I'd hate to see you bolt in another one that has problems.
