Yes it was!! We were calling it "the deer slayer". Never left one standing. We were looking for little Rudolph stickers that could be put on the fenders. My cousin was the ace, as he hit 8 with that car and alot more with his truck. I've never hit more than 3 with one vehicle. I hit my first in a Buick 2 Sunday's ago. That really sucked. I banged up a car that I actually liked (my 86 Regal). A little super glue for the headlight bezel and two shims out of the bumper and it almost looks the same. I drive my truck more often now. The rut's coming and we're almost a week into archery season. The truck will have a better chance of survival for the next few months.

I'd made quite a few passes down the 1/4 mile before my first trip in a Buick. I was 16 when I got my first Stage1(rescued it actually)and it's first pass was in the 1/8 mile. 8.20@87. Cars first pass down the 1/4 was when I was 17(I started young Call my relatives a bad influence :3gears: ). ET was 13.96@97 on borrowed Pro Trac "stickies" hehe.

My other 70 Stage1(which I still own. Also considered another car I rescued) was a bit better prepared but still a, stock with headers buildup. 13.39@106.7 on Firestone 275/60/15 radials. Car got into the 11.0's@125 in 1998 before I got tired of feeling like I was abusing my one and only "never be for sale" vehicle. I tell everyone it's like my second child.

Finally got my 70 Stage1 Apollo finished enough to race last year at the Noble Buick/Ford shootout. Best pass was a 10.60@130 using the same motor from my GS. Ran really strong for being dormant on an engine stand for 5 years. Still the same engine in the NoPollo(Nova and Apollo get it) with a few more car upgrades and some tweaking. Soon as I finish the repairs on the grenaded 9 inch Ford rearend(courtesy of Buick torque) I'm gonna take her back to Noble and shoot for the 9's on pump gas.

My first pass was 14.78 in my 70 X Stg1 (bone stock)....1980....didn't know where the finish line was. Dialed a 14.22. Ran out with a 14.19.
Not too bad for not knowing anything......

My goal was to go faster (even if .01) every year. I think I did except for one year.....
Now 25 yrs later track (75-80) is closing. Lots of good times. Can't beat a local track....even if it is slippery.

    first time out

Hey OLD GUY: My first pass on a strip was in Cheyenne Wyo. in 1959? Also had flagman with no lites. Pretty exciting to break that 60mph mark. The car was a 56 Ford Victoria 2dr ht 312 motor. While waiting in line for final eliminations a guy told me to undo this part on my carb. It was the accelorater pump. Of course the car fell flat on is face at the jab of of the gas. At least I know now not to unhook anything. Ken(another old guy)

Fortunately my first outing in my X I had plenty of time to test and tune, so I kinda knew what to expect. I made two passes in the 10's and was told not enough safety equipment. Had to load up for the nite, but that was OK I was plenty happy, made my point and SHUT up several big mouths that didn't know what they were talking about. :3gears:

cray1801 Too much is just right.

With current engine and basic set-up 13.25 @ 105 mph vs sig.

Soon to be updated with softer tires this weekend.

My very first 1/8 mile runs were made in my first car in ~1984. It was a `68 Barracuda with a 318, single plane manifold and 600 cfm 1850 Holly (I added) and peg leg 3.23 gear -->9.87 @ 72.5mph. After rebuild with 360 heads and posi. 3.23 it ran 13.3's in 1/4 mile.

Jim, you remember that motor in Roy's Barracuda? That was the first motor I ever built (without my dad's help).

I also had a `89 LX 5.0 AOD initial 1/8 was 10.1, adding H-pipe, change gear from 2.73 to 3.73, adding underdrive pullys and synthetic oil ran 9.2's.

Same Skylark as I have now with stock 350-4 set-up ran 10.1. After adding larger 800 cfm Q-jet, HEI and TCI Breakaway ran 9.0's or 14.2's at 93 mph.

`73 Murcury Capri ran 9.8's with `74 2.8 motor I rebuilt and added a Mustang II 4-speed. This was my auto cross car, the tires were almost as wide as they were tall. Rode like a go-cart. Here's the Capri with my daughter back in ~1990.

    First Pass

My first pass was in 1968 at Dragway 42 in Ohio. I had my first 1967 GS 400, 4 speed with 3.23:1 open rear end, 15.70 was either my first or my best for the day, can't remember all the details. 3 years later I won the flight line drags with a jeep at Circle 34 Heliport, RVN.

    GBUICK ALL THROTTLE

My first pass was in a buddys '65 350 horse 327 4 speed El Camino on snow tires. He had made 2-3 passes in the 15.80-15.90 range but was the absolute worst 4 speed driver I've ever seen. He said "you think you can do better?" and I said "hell yes". I went out and ran 15.10 and he wouldn't let me try again. That was circa 1983. We were 16 years old and ran at the old Gateway Int Raceway near St. Louis.

My first in a Buick was in my '67GS-14.30s with SA455
My first in my GSE car was in '96 and went 11.98 and at the 05 GS Nats went 9.45

    Gary,

What is it with those Chevy owners? :Dou:

A buddy of mine was with us at the track and brought his 327 powered Deluxe 300. He was running 13.2s and 13.3s with it at 100mph. He kept pestering me to drive it so I finally did. Launched nice and straight waited for the shift light to come on but felt the motor starting to drop off so I shifted to second. Same thing in second the motor dropped off before the shift light came on. I ended up running a 13.10 at 101mph. He was pissed! Told me I could run it, but didn't say I could go faster than he did! I told him to adjust his shift light cause he was running out of engine. It took him another six runs to beat my time!

    First Drag times

High School Drag Day, 1978, Martin US131 Dragway, Martin Michigan

Car: REALLY beat 4-speed 400 motored 1968 Firebird - headers, unknown rear gears, Q-Jet.

Car behavior - takes off, goes like h*** through second gear, then coasts the length of the track, absolutely no power. Times in the mid 17's.

The ultra-trick Radio Shack Capacitive Discharge Ignition kit (I'm not lyin') that I installed burned a hole through the neck of the stock coil and the spark would short through to the negative terminal!

I didn't go back to the strip until about 4-5 years ago when the '68 in my avatar ran mid-low 15's on the stock (and roached) 400 motor. Best time with the current 455 is low 13's.
