    Help .... :pp ( 1967 Special , GS , Skylark )

After searching thru the board here I ended up still not sure what 15" tire and what backspacing / offset would not only look the best but also not rub .

Looking to run Buick wheels and BFG tires . I do want to keep all 5 the same size . I am after the full look without any chance of tearing up a tire or a fender .

    Thanx !!! :TU:

    Happy New Year Bill

Thanx Bill but I am still wondering the correct backspace and also what tire size would fit the front and rear without "any" clearance issues .

You would think a 67 guy would have chimed in by now .

Well back to the garage for now . :Brow:

    Thanx Bill :bglasses: :TU:

    67 wheels and tires

Bruce, I run 235-60-15 on Cragar SS wheels with 4.25 backspace on my 66. I would recommend a little more backspace than the Cragars have to move the tires in a bit. Yesterday I put 295-50-15 on 10 inch chevy ralleys with 5 inch backspace on the rear. They are about 1/2 inch from rubbing on the outside lip of the fender. I plan to push the quarter panel out a little to help them fit. The fit on my car depended a lot on having a good spring on the rear. The 235's rubbed on the outer lip until I put new springs on. HTH. Happy New Year to you and Shirl!

Happy New Year to you and yours also Carl !!!! :beer :TU: :TU:

Thanx Carl for the info . It looks like everyone does something different . No different than the 70 - 72 A bodies but these 65 - 67 A bodies are a little tuffer !

How about some pictures and details of what you members are running .

I want to put on Buick Ralleys same size all 5 tires .

    I did try 245 60 15 today with a 4 1/2 " backspacing and they were way too tight on the rear . I believe the wheel was a 8" rim .

Anyone help out here .... :Do No:

    Thanx in Advance :bglasses: :bglasses:

    245-60's

Thanks for the Holiday wish, Bruce. Like I said, rear springs make a lot of difference on the back of the body style. Does the car sit level? Did you happen to try the 245-60 on the front? I am considering that size on the front of the 66 to match the 295-50 I just put on the rear.

Georges 'Black Widow' '67 has 275/4-17 tires on 9.5" wide wheels with 6" backspacing. I'm not sure what width rear he has, so that'll effect the necessary back spacing for you:
    http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?t=31102&highlight=tires
Search his posts with 'tires'.....he's used several wheel/tire combos.
His red car has a real nice combo on it as well. :TU:

I have 275/60-15's on my blue '66....it's a tight fit with a rolled fender lip. The rear is 1 inch narrower than stock ('66 Chevelle 12 bolt)
My '66 Special has 255's rear, 235's front. 255's are tight on the outside...again, I rolled the fender lip. Stock rear width.
235's fit great on the front, the 255's are a tad too big for the front.
All tires are mounted on 15x7 Buick mags.
    Hope that helps???

Oh.....there are 'fitting tools' avail that bolt onto your hub, and can deterfine the best tire/wheel size. Maybe a specialty shop near you has one.
That's all I can think of for now! Good luck!

    Carl , your welcome bud .. Ok Sunday we pulled 4 245 / 60 / 15 mounted on 8" buick wheels with 4 1/2" backspacing .

The fronts cleared well , and fit sweet ... :Brow: Then I go to the rear and the tires were anout a 1/4 " from the wheel lips . Too close for me .. :eek2:

So know I sit and wonder do I go with a 7" rim with 4 1/2 " backspacing on all 4 corners ?

    Or do I consider a 8" rim with 5 1/2 " backspacing on all 4 corners ? :puzzled:

We're still wondering ... But we are learning alot as we go . :pp

Thanx Walt ! Well I will go back and see what George did in the past . Your idea of go to a special shop is one idea . But we are hoping to find the right combo here on V8 of course . Geeze with as many members and cars that we have here I know we will find the combo ..

Going back to some of the PM's I have recieved ..

Cutting out the wheel lip ..... :Dou:

I believe Bob ( the guy who worked very hard to bring this car back to it's beautiful state may haunt me forever .

We are going to have to keep the car stock hieght , and the wheel lips on .. :pp

Thanx Walt and all the others so far ....... :TU: :TU:

Rolling the wheel lip ...

:Smarty: Update ... It is all starting to come together now . :eek2:

It looks like a 15 X 8 with 5" backspacing will be just right . Last nights tire swap was a 245 / 60 / 15 with 4 1/2 backspacing that fit the front nice but a little too close in the rear .

    Let's get a 1 /2 " more backspacing and call it done !

    ( 15 x 8 5" backspacing )

Whatcha all think ...? :Do No: :puzzled:

Thanks for the info on the fronts, Bruce. I hope you can find a wheel that you like with a 5 inch back space. A 7 inch wheel might be easier to fit because it will reduce the section width somewhat. Good luck and again, Happy New Year.
