my 64 wildcat would have had a th400( with detent switch), my donor engine and trans has a 65 sp400. is the switch pitch version the same except for the front pump and converter?

I actually have a book that breaks down the 65 sp400, but can't find a way to compare it to the 64 trans.

The 64 transmission only has 5 gearshift positions, P-R-N-D-L. Although it has 3 foward speeds, you can't select 2 and hold it manually. The 65 and later 400's have 6 gearshift positions, P-R-N-D-L2-L1. The SP 400's are the same as a fixed pitch 400, except for the front pump, input shaft, and of course, the converter. There are 2 contacts on the driver's side of the trans. The vertical one is the kickdown, and the horizontal contact is for the stator change. Apply 12 volts to the kickdown contact, the trans downshifts, apply 12 volts to the stator contact, you get high stall.
