What is the difference between positive traction differential, and performance axel with positive traction?? BY the way what is the easiest way to find out if you have posi?
No difference, both terms mean the same. Best way to check for posi is jack the rear up so both wheels are off the ground, car in neutral spin one wheel and the other side will spin in the same direction. Non-posi will spin the opposite way.
One of things associated with performance axle vs standard axle is gear ratios. Std ratios are like 3.08,2.73,2.56.Whereas performance axles are considered 3.23,3.42, 3.90, 4.10 etc. But a posi is a posi and it depends on ratio is all.
Like Pat said; If you ordered a positive traction differential you got the standard gear ratio with posi. In '68 the standard ratio for my GS is 2.93, I have the posi option so my diff. is a 2.93 posi. The performance axle with posi with a higher available gear. You could also order an S.C.O axle with posi For 1969 GS400 G1= Performance axle with posi (3.42) --(3.64 for standard shift) G4= Positive traction differential (2.93) --(3.42 for standard shift) G7 & G9 = S.C.O axle with posi (?) :beers2:
