What's the easiest way to change a front pump seal on a Dynaflow transmission?

Hi. I recently purchased a '49 Buick Super sedanette. Very original with the straight-8 and Dynaflow trans. There's a bad leak at the front of the trans so I'm guessing the front pump seal is shot. I looked up in the manual about changing these and it said to undo the rear axle. I did a similar job on a 1940 Ford pickup with torque tube, etc. that I owned a while ago. Very time consuming! Would it be simpler/quicker just to pull the engine out and access the front seal that way? I'd be curious to know what the general approach is.

    Hi Chris,

Thanks for the recommendation. Wasn't having any luck on that site, but I guess it was called "V8Buick" not Straight8".

Just got full rego today, but still lots of issues to fix.

    Cheers,
