    Jim,
    Those were my thoughts exactly. You often see different "time spacing" on the same parts at different plants.

    This fact makes it really hard to give people a "generic" answer when they ask me how far back a certain part should be from the body production date.

    It would have been nice if all the cars were built at the same plant (like the Corvettes) but that was not the case with our cars.

    Either way the date of 2/20/70 as the "WG" intro date still holds true.

    Anyone with an earlier date?

    I have a few 1/14/1970 dated wheels with the 7.0 code, but my experience leads me to the same conclusion, the WG application code was first used on wheels dated 2/20/1970.

    Thanks for the reply Jim. Sorry to get off track from Dave's original question. I had written down 104/885 Fremont GS455 coupes had F7. I didn't calculate Conv. It does retain all 5 wheels and the Original Polyglass spare tire in the trunk.So I don't doubt the authenticity.

    Regards,

    Hey DL,
    Let me know what the tire code is on the spare if you can. It should be melted into the sidewall.

    Removed the front rim/tires (14") from an early build 1970 GS.
    the code on both front rims are;

    M4/9 8 27 60

    Does that mean; 1969 august 27
    Not sure what 60 means since all above information is alpha.
    Does anyone know what 60 decodes?
    thank for any information.

    That early 1970 production year wheel was made before the application codes were stamped on the wheels.

    It actually reads as "6.0" and is the width, which on your 14" rim would be 6 inches. The 15" rims of the same time period would read "7.0" and designate 7 inches.

    I just checked and this was answered on post #15 on this thread.

    If you are into deciphering date codes I wrote an entire book on how to do it. It includes photographs and/or illustrations of the actual date codes, and will decode almost every date coding system you will find on your car. The price of the book is $42.50 shipped anywhere in the continental US.

    Duane;
    Thank you for the information.
    I went back and read your 15 posts. makes it perfectly clear to me.
    I left out the period between the 6 and 0.

    I will need to go check. I believe I have purchased your book.
    I have forgotten about that "Bible" book.
    Thank you

    No problem,
    It's cool to look thru a car's dates and find the "hidden" story of a particular vehicle, but it's also a disease so be careful.:laugh::laugh::laugh:

    Typhoid Duane strikes again.:laugh::laugh::laugh:

    Someday I will finish the article about how the GSX's were really painted. That should cause a flurry, like using a stick to stir up an ant hill.
