2 different wheel cylinders and 2 different hoses and both leaking where the rubber hose screws into the wheel cylinder. Cant figure it out. Cant get the hose any tighter to the wheel cylinder. Im lost.

You're gonna need to give us some more info and pics would be helpful. Start with the yr make and model of your car.

Have you installed the copper washer between the hose & the wheel cylinder???

I wasnt aware that there is supposed to be a copper washer. The new ones didnt come with one and i dont believe there was one on the old one i took off.

The rubber hose goes right to the wheel cylinder on a 66 LeSabre? That doesn't sound right. Normally there is a small piece of 3/16 steel line in between

Just looked at my 67 service manual and Tom is right as usual! The manual calls for a sealing washer in between the hose and cylinder

Yup, same on my '67 front drums.

Here's the copper washer in place, ready for installation. Sometimes the old washer stays stuck on either the cylinder, or the hose. Either way, the washers have to be replaced with new ones for each installation. Make sure mating surfaces are clean, dry and flat.

You should be able to find an appropriately sized washer by taking the hose into an auto parts store if it's already off the car.

Awesome, y'all. I really appreciate y'alls help. Besides getting the thing to stay running at idle, this is the last step to getting my car on the road. Im stoked. Thank y'all again.

This is where im stumped now. The silver hose is the driver side with no copper washer and its holding fluid. The brass looking one is the passenger side with the copper washer. Why would one hold fluid without the washer and the other need a washer?

Luck of the draw. The washer is there to take up any difference in the flatness of the 2 parts (cylinder + hose), because 2 different companies made them, and the tolerances aren't perfect. It may still leak, I would definitely put a washer there. Usually the washers come with the hose, sometimes they are taped to the hose in a bag, sometimes they are loose in the box. You may have thrown them away, or they may have never been there.

So put a washer on the driver side too, or leave it alone if its holding fluid?

Yeah...washer now, definitely. You can wait for a 2nd opinion. It's a 5 min, $1.00 job now, but if it starts leaking, you will still have to do it, you will have to re-bleed, it's better to do it now.

    Definitely add the washer.

X2 what Devon said. A little more work now saves a whole lotta work (and skinned knuckles, and wrenching in the dark/rain, and elevated blood pressure, etc) later.

Well fellers, Washer on both sides. Still leaking. Very little, but leaking none the less. And their cranked down tighter than Dicks hat band. Whats next? Do I teflon tape and J.B. Weld them?(I'm kidding) I'm near breaking point.

Im thinking ya might have damaged the sealing surface in either the wheel cylinder, the line or both by not having the washers on from the start. Check for any imperfections correct if needed.

This! Also inspect the copper washers like you would a bad head gasket. See if there are any areas on the copper that look like they didn't contact the surface. At best, get another set of washers.
