When to run a stall converter?

I used this thread to ask all of my build questions as well. It wasn't 30 pages of fuel problems. But I do get what you are saying. Even if I do discover some fuel delivery issues the 750 double pumper is still the more appropriate carb for my engine. Once it gets past the bog or dead spot it seems to do okay. I'd be shocked if it was fuel. I had fuel delivery issues on my truck with the 406 a few years ago. Slight kink in the rubber line. I figured it out right away. Truck had all kinds of issues.

I do commend you for sticking with the same thread. Too many guys create multiple threads about basically the same general problem. Then what happens is you get responses from many members not having the background information that is available with one thread. When you asked what nosing over was, I was kind of surprised, and thought maybe you don't know what fuel supply issues feel like. As long as you feel that is not an issue, I believe the DP carburetor should help you a lot. A converter and gears will make a huge difference when you get to them.

Heres some pics. I might bolt it on in the next week or so but the single digit temps and snow just won't stop so I'll be waiting on the weather to clear before it leaves the garage. 20210210_211127.jpg 20210210_211059.jpg

Looks good! It’s -40 here today, the garage heater is working a lot.

We have an actual air temp of -20 forecasted for sunday. Where are you located? Iowa can have nasty winters but this is one of the worst in recent history. Records for snow and cold have been set this year beating out records that were set 20 to 30 years ago.

I’m up in northern Canada, yes today it’s -22 F temp and -39 with the wind brrr... I just went and bought a used trans for a project and 5 minutes outside loading it was enough for me lol

It’s all good it’s been a pretty mild winter until a few weeks ago and we only have 2 feet of snow so it could be way worse. I’m sure in a month or so it will warm up. I work night shifts so it’s always colder an night... I spent a little extra on the garage heater but it warms up the 1250 square feel easily.

Need some help. My fuel line is in the way of my heater hose connection to the intake. I'm going to look for a heater hose fitting that's got like a 45 degree angle if I can't find one I was hoping that I could go right to the radiator with the heater hose but wasn't sure on the direction of the flow. See photos, there is an extra hose port. I also will have to modify the port where my transmission pulls vacuum from the intake it also hits the fuel line. These issues may not have been a problem if I had bought 6an stuff but I bought 8an so I'm dealing with it.

Also, the drop base air cleaner does not fit correctly and causes binding on the linkage going to the choke. Can I run a base with less drop? I'm afraid I wont have hood clearance. The drop base is from TA

8AN between fuel pump and carburetor? No reason for that. I have 6AN between pump and carburetor. This might also be more of a problem on the 350, it's close on my 455, you may have less room.

Have you tried orienting the air cleaner base a different way. It may have to go on a specific way to clear all linkages.

The Dual feed stuff is 8an so I had to get a 6 to 8 adapter and it's a right where the heater hose is going to the intake and it's going to be really tight

I would see if the temp unit would swap to the other hole. Likewise with the heater hose connection.

No, mine is 6AN. 8AN is unnecessary.

I moved my heater hose over to the other side of the thermostat housing with a 45deg. fitting. I have a Holley 750dp with manual choke that clears the drop base air cleaner.

My radiator actually has a port for a heater hose. I'm just not sure it's the correct one. I could solve all my issues by just getting a longer heater hose and going straight to the radiator I just need to know if it'll work. Wasn't sure on the way the coolant flows. 20210214_131006.jpg

I think I picked up this 45* brass fitting at local Ace hardware.
As for choke, nothing in the way....:D

Screenshot_20210214-174500_Samsung Internet.jpg I moved the heater hose to the other side of the intake. I think I might order one of these 45s.

I started the car tonight with the quickfuel. I had a small fuel leak on the front bowl. Took a while to start. Fresh carb plus the garage has been below freezing for the last month. Once I got the car warmed up and floats adjusted it was running great. I swear it sounds better then it ever did with the edelbrock. Revs nice too. Looks great on there as well. I'll post pics tomorrow after I get the idle set with the vacuum gauge.

What size vacuum line do you run? 5/32 is really tight and 7/32 seems a little loose. I had to modify the tranny vacuum line and hook right to the carburetor because it's too tight against my fuel line where it used to go into the manifold. my air cleaner base is insanely tight. It's been manufactured incorrectly or the quickfuel is just a tad too big...i got it on there but had to pry it off.

No vacuum line at all, running a brf 2004r trans.
I run the L88 drop base, I have no experience with TA's base.

    Advice needed, read second paragraph.

I got the heater hoses rerouted, tranny vacuum line and PCV are rerouted, carb is set to idle around 825-850 with a vacuum reading of 14, still dealing with a fast idle problem. Cant seem to get it to work. checked timing and readjusted it to 14* was closer to 11* which is odd. I am ready for the snow to melt!

Another thing I did today was pulled valve covers attempting to trace a ticking noise that I hear once the car is warmed up. All of the rockers seem to move up and down as they should, lots of oil coming out of them, push rods all spin but some spin fast and some really slow. Should I be concerned about this? None of them seem to be ticking so I'm assuming it's a header gasket leak. I have iron rocker shafts with aluminum rockers.
