Getting ready soon to put the rechromed dash in...

My Heater controls are broken off from the inside of the current dash and just hang loosly in there. It appears the mounts on it are broken so I have already picked up another set.

My question is its is simply disconnect the old wiring and vacuum lines and hook them to the new one?

Do the vacuum lines need any negative pressure before being hooked up etc?

    any tips or hints?

    AC or non AC?
Be careful about the vacuum lines. Get a Chassis Manual for reference. 5-6 lines go into the rear of the controls ( AC for sure). They fit into a small rubber manifold drilled out a certain places. The manifold gets pressed onto the rear of the switch, by hand. There is a small plastic nipple for each vacuum line inserted into both the manifold & the line.

    It does have AC.

So As long as I switch everything over to the new unit exactly I should be ok

Basically I was just wondering if there was any special process to hook up vacuum lines...Ive seen friends suck on a vacuum line, kink it, and hook it up with negative pressure. Not sure if something like that is required in this case.

Don't see any benefit to having a vacuum applied before connection. Vacuum will be applied once connected & engine running.
Get the lines back in the same place they came out, should be good. They have coloured stripes on them, easy to make a sketch.

Just hook them up and they work. You do not need to put any stinkin vacuum to them. You can mark them with masking tape and a marker as well and make them fool proof. Just number them and make a diagram where each number goes. I have to do this stuff to keep from screwing up.

You may want to make sure you mark the wires also.
Last time I had mine out was about 15 Years ago, for a re-lamping.
    Have a good Holiday weekend!
