Where do these plates go?

I'm putting new carpet in my '70 GS. This is the power bench seat. Under the carpet, I found 2 plates (pictured) that were laying under the carpet unattached, on each side of the seat. I can tell by the marks from the nut, they go on one of the studs on the L & R rear of the bench. My question is exactly how to they install...and integrate with the carpet? They look like some sort of a plate to hold the carpet down where it is slit to install the feet of the frames. Any help would be appreciated! plate.jpg

They go on the stud that is the farthest toward the rear of the car with the body of the plate toward the rear.

Wow - Do you know if they were also used in '71 (I can look @ the assy. Manual too)? I just bought a car with a power seat, but the car came in boxes (2 truck/2 trailer kind of car). I'll have to see if they were incl. but I don't recall seeing them. If anybody has a spare set, let me know.

Better yet.....could you post a photo with dimensions added to the pic? I can probably make some fairly easily if I have the sizing. Also...an approximation on the thickness of the metal.

That or make a tracing on a piece of paper and throw it in the mail??

I have a power bucket seat setup and I believe they also used the carpet retainers.

I would make myself a pair and a pair for Dano.

I forgot to write on the pic.....these are .050" thick. Also, I do not believe these are color matched. I found a couple pics online and they all seem to be a dark olive color, regardless of the interior. Mine is sandalwood...so they aren't even close... not that it matters as you don;t see them. Let me know if you need any other info!

Bob - THANKS!! Stuff like this happens when you have pieces of metal sheet laying around.....I'll start scribing some patterns in the metal.

Crazy how GM paid attention to many details.....look closely and you can see they stamped a pebble grain into the plate on the side that would be visible. That or they used a thin vinyl textured covering on these pieces ('70-72 Olds consoles have a very thin textured vinyl attached to a metal part of the console....the rest of the console outer parts are plastic with the grain molded in already).

The green finish may have been a plating finish on the metal.......hard to tell.

I just looked and it looks like a painted on finish, with no primer. Whatever it is is, it just flakes off quite easily and the texture is as you said, stamped onto the top side only of the plate.

I looked through the parts that came with the car and found them. Had it not been for this post, other than the assy. manual, I wouldn't have known what they were. Thank you for the offer to make them!

I've run into this on an Oldsmobile ('72) and the Assembly Manual for that car had MINIMAL, or possibly no, info on the seats.......we looked in a Fisher Body Manual for that year and there seemed to be a somewhat vague reference in there to these carpet retainer plates for power bucket seat cars....I think the body manual sort of showed the plates but there wasn't a PN or much description shown (from what I recall).

    Thanks

FWIW, I have a 67 Sportwagon with power bench and it had these plates. They were color matched to the interior, at least in 67.
