  2. In and effort to reduce the spam on the site, several years ago I had went to a program where I manually approve each and every new registration. This approval gives you full access to the site, to pictures, and to post, among other things. To be able to enjoy the full potential of the board for you, you need to be fully registered.. and that's easy.. Just send an email to me at jim@trishieldperformance.com and I will verify your registration. This policy will remain in effect indefinitely, as it has completely eliminated the bad actors from our site, who would spam and hack it, once they gained access. Thanks JW

I wrote a new post 11/27 pm, but it did not appear anywhere that I can find. What did I do wrong?

    Tires for my '68 Wildcat

I'm planning to replace the tires on my '68 Wildcat convertible. The car has under 90,000 miles, and has a rebuilt engine (in fact, it's a 455 from a '70 Riviera) and a TH400 transmission. All systems work as they should and it is a great summer driver.

It currently rides on four matched 225/70/15 radials on stock steel wheels, approximately the same size as the factory supplied 8.45 bias ply tires.

Sitting on level ground, the rear of the car appears an inch or two lower than the front (slight negative rake). The effect is multiplied combined with the swoopy design of the body line on the fenders and doors and the factory fender skirts.

The suspension is all stock, but probably a little tired after nearly 55 years. I don't want to try and replace the rear springs or add spring shocks - it rides just fine - and in doing so, I think lifting the rear would be detrimental to the overall "low-slung" look I'm trying to achieve.

What I am considering is increasing the rear tire size to 235/75/15 and decreasing the fronts to 195/70/15 or 205/70/15. I will also be mounting them on the optional, factory, styled chrome "rally" wheels. As far as I know, the offsets are the same, or close enough not to matter or bother the bearings.. The resulting differences in height should at least level out the stance if not drop the front slightly.

The bottom line question is, "Will these changes in any way, other than appearance, change the car?...ride? ...handling? ...reliability? The car is not a long distance traveler, but the miles add up each year. Secondly, will either of the smaller front tire sizes be OK with the weight of a 4200 pound car?"

I would appreciate your comments and thank you in advance.
