Which panels interchange with other gm's

I am having a Hell of a time trying to find interior panels for my 64 skylark. Its bare in there right now so the only option for me is to find decent used panels ready to go in or have a shop custom make them after I buy the material which currently is out of my price range.

Will any other a-body vehicles work, chevelle, cutlass, etc? I have found numerous chevelle set ups ready to drop in but don't know if it will work on the doors and rear sill areas of my lark. I don't need factory skylark paneling so it's not an issue.

Chevelle door panels would probably work seeing how the only difference between a Skylark door and a chevelle door is the door skin. Not totally sure though,I've never tried it.

With all the car part outs I see on here,if you wait I'm sure someone will be parting out a 64-65 Skylark soon.:Do No:

It always makes me sad:ball: to see a car get parted out though, instead of trying to restore it,but the only way to restore a 64-65 Skylark you need to find a donor car.:puzzled:

Or maybe you can find a cheap parts car to do up yours?:idea2:

  3. Year One has door panels listed for a 65. Perhaps they would fit.

The problem with those is if you don't have the old ones to re-use some structural parts from them, the ones they sell won't mount to the doors. But would probably work if he had a different A-body panel he could use the structure from?

Its basically the top part of the door panel thats made out of metal that hooks into the door at the top thats not included with the new ones. The new panels have to be glued to that top structural piece. Its a PITA to do too.

And I believe the back ones need to be glued to the old strustures also.(not as sure of the back ones, its been a while)

I have all the metal rails from the original but the cost factor to order all the covers and have them done is just to much for me right now. I can find chevelle panels assembled and ready but would they still work and clip in properly, especially the back panels? My plan for this car isn't to restore it and make it a show car, it's just to have fun in and not worry if little things happen to it but I swear interior pieces are impossible to come across.

Also if I need to order the panels from pui or somewhere then I will get the proper ones, I just have a few places where I can get chevelle panels out of a chevelle and are ready to drop in without work needed.

I know very little about these GM's but after tearing down my 65 Skylark and then working on my friends 65 GTO i was amazed to see how much the interior and exterior were similar if not the same. May be worth looking at a Lemans interior. I googled 64 Pontiac Lemans interior and 64 Buick Skylark interior and clicked back and forth when i did find some pics and they look close to me as far as crank/lever locations.

The Parts Place Inc. lists a couple options for 64 Skylark, with both Legendary and PUI panels listed for sale, some said NOS. Don't know if that helps you but compare the prices there before spending perhaps the same or more for incorrect Chevelle panels.

I noticed they said they were unassembled, so make sure (maybe call them) that they come with all the parts. For example, I don't know if the big V (perhaps it is meant to signify Skylark wings?) that runs across the 64 Skylark panels is included. Otherwise you'll have to source used pieces to complete the panels. I wonder if that piece is pot metal. Not familiar with Skylark panels, but SMI quoted me $785 for new door and rear interior panels on my 64 Special Deluxe but they DO NOT include the pot metal "hockey stick" moulding unique to those panels.

If your not worried too much about the looks you can make your own. I would not worry about the metal portion of the original panels. Save them for later if you ever want to go original. You can paint the upper edge of the inner doors as well as the rear passenger sections. Then you make a flat panel up to the finished edge of the inner doors. Some of the Buick Specials are like this.

I have two sources right now for full door panels front and rear for a 64 and 65 chevelle for under 300 in great condition but if they won't fit then obviously it's not worth it. This would avoid me having to order the material then have to take them to a shop to be professionally installed and save me about 1000. I just wish someone might have tried this and have a definitive answer if they will push right into the door.

Also remember the Skylark used a metal perimeter around the door panel which contained the nails that coincide with the grommets in the doors. They are different than the Chevelle's.

Even though buick used the metal perimeter does the chevelle still line up? I think I may have a lead on a local guy who can do up some panels for a reasonable price.

I believe the shape is the same. When I redid my interior I ordered the Legendary Interiors door panels and assembled them myself. The door panels from Legendary had the mounting holes like the Chevelles have. I don't know if they use the same pattern for all of the GM A-body's (64-65) but that is how they made them. I personally did not re-use the metal perimeter around my new panels as they were pretty bent and broken. I also did not use the mounting holes that were in the Legendary panels. I would of had to drill holes in the doors to get them to line up with the door panels.

To be clear the resemblance of the door panels between the a-body's look the same but I have not had one side by side so don't want to steer you in the wrong direction.
