Which Primer to get if you cannot do a finish paint job?
Due to funds I will never be able to get my car out of primer (which is fine by me). My question is what is the easiest to put down. I need brands and paint numbers.
Lastly which color primer looks best? Black or Grey (Currently an argument with the wife)
Im not sure a Skylark/GS will look good black.

I would use a dark grey primer sealer if it wont get painted. Primer surfacer will hold dirt and stains more. Sealers tend to have a bit of a shine compared to surfacers also.

    Black!!!!

Black, definately go black! I bought my car in grey primer, and bottom line, it just gets dirty WAY too fast. It looks terrible when it rains, and really screams out primer.

Alot of it depends on what colour your grill is. But in the end i found having the car black was way nicer. Ill attach a few pics, im trying to locate the album of where it was grey, ill post when i do.

But with black, it looks interesting, and you can put graphics and pin stripes on it as well.

Another one, before and after, the pix were taken 4 hours apart. Hard to tell, but the grill was still the original grey colour at this point, and very dirty. It looked kinda funny, so i painted it black, with silver outlines. Paint was still drying, so there is no glossy finish afterwards. If you look close, the passenger side of the car is dryer than the drivers.

Last one, to emphasize how easy it was to do. I bought the paint at a local hardware store, i beleive it was originally for tractors. Mixed it with varsol for the second coat. Its incredibly easy paint to work with when sanding for smoothness. Entire cost of job was $30 and about 8 hours of work from start to finish. This is including the rallye stripes, although the 8 hours and $30 werent spent at once. Sorry i cant recall what the brand name was, but if you go to a local hardware store and ask for paint, for metal, you'll probably get something similar to this. It wasnt tremclad, which is another $ effective way to go.

Cheers, good luck with your decision

You should post some pix of your car, i found the little details play a big part in how the overall "look" of the car turns out, like colour of the grill, type of headlight bezels, type of mirrors, tires, etc....
