That day at Cecil was pretty close to perfect conditions. I did back up that ET of 9.43 @ 140.98 MPH at Englishtown NJ the next year!!:blast: But John never got his Steel heads on again to challenge my record, and Rick was running the Allumnum heads and making some good ETS. So I went to Greg from Gessler Headporting for some tall port alluminum TA Stage 1 heads, and togeather with my alluminum welding and his expert port work we managed to make a set of killer heads. With a camshaft change ,to match the aluminum heads, My new combo with these heads made an incredable 844 HP!! Now my car is not the best for getting the maximum ET out of this engine. Still stock frame and suspension and mini tubed by myself! At 3220 pounds it has gone 9.12 @ 147MPH TO DATE!! I have to get it to a track with perfect traction, for it to run this quick and be consistent. Most of the time it will spin and I have to knock the timing back on launch to make the car consistent. Will see what happens this year I still have not back halfed the car. When I can afford that it should put it in the 8"s...Hopefully..:beer
Really nice to see someone still running iron heads at those speeds.....:TU: Besides, once the TA aluminum block comes out, all the current aluminum head / iron block combos can join the "nostalgia" ranks too. Tommy
I GOT MY IRON HEADS ON THE SHELF ALL READY TO GO!! JUST GO AHEAD AND BEAT THAT 9.43 AND I WILL LOWER THE MARK ALSO.:beers2:
Herb, We went 10.56@126 at BG last year (GSE class winner !!!). The car is a '72..... 3860# (all steel) with driver, stock full interior (bench seat), and a 3" full exhaust system. The motor is a 464 cu. inch, 10.4:1 CR, flat tappet cam, with a Q-Jet. We are hoping to get in the 40's this year.....we'll see.
What tranny/converter/gear combo are you using, those are impressive numbers at the weight with a q jet
Rossler TH350 (governor shift), 8" ATI convertor, 4.30 gear, 9" wide radial slick. Our 60ft. times are normally 1.40-1.42. Additionally, the motor was built by AM&P back in 2003.
Thanks for the compliments....we try to keep it clean and simple. In stock appearing trim, the car would run 11.00@122 (cast iron intake, exhaust manifolds, Q-Jet). When we put on the SPX Intake and TA 2" headers, the car picked-up about a half second. With the 4.10 gear, we go thru the lights at 6000-6200rpm. With the 4.30 gear, we are going thru the lights at 6300-6500rpm.
Are the rules that were put in place years ago still valid? 3000 #or more, buick body, any c.i. ,no power adders.
Read earlier posts. Rules are "carved in stone" so they should never change. I guess nobody's up for the challenge.
