I am interested in having a GSCA repro 70 GS grill painted correctly by someone who can do it correctly(not butterfingers me :error: ). Any recommendaions? I had heard that one of the resto shops is offering members a deal, but wondered about other options. :Do No:

    Hi Bill,
How about Dave Tumas (Daves69)? Does a mean repair and resto on our grilles. Duane can verify this if he reads this thread. I believe Jim Lore too.

Dave Kleiner has the proper mask to do the job. I believe he is charging $50 to paint the grille properly. Number is 608-763-2076 days.

I'm sure Dave has the resources to do the job, too.

Dave Tumas is the best I have seen. Having been through it I cannot imagine anyone painting one for $50.00. It is trickey to mask and paint.

Dave has gone to a lot of trouble to make up paint to match the original. A pic of the 70 grille he did for me and the 71 he did for Duane are in the archieves on this Board.

Thanks for the vote of confidence guys. I can paint the repro grilles but my paint costs are more than the $50 Dave Kliener does it for. PPG paints are running $36 a pint and the reducer is $27 it takes 3 colors to do a 70 GS grille plus over five hours to mask and paint. You see this does not come cheap and I usually charge $225 for a repaint. I think this is a a fair price. Compare this to having a door repainted on a car by a body shop and it is a bargain.
Let me know if you are interested I would be glad to help out.

Remember I also have CORRECT repro studs for the 70 GS grilles.

Once again, I must cast my vote for Dave on the grilles. He did my basket case 69 and it is impeccable.

As far as Dave Kleiner, I'm sure he does great work as well, but I have a sour taste in my mouth pertaining to a time when I sent him a 69 dash bezel years ago to mock up a mold to repro them, and when he realized he couldn't use it because of a broken mounting stud, I asked him to send it back to me. I called him repeatedly and emailed. I probably called him 2 dozen times and asked for the bezel back and never got it.

So, I know who will be doing my grilles in the future.
