Who is running JW's billet fuel pump?

    Hi folks,

Getting ready to drop in my Bulldog-headed 464. Gessler did the heads and I'm thinking it will be around 500 h.p.--possibly 550, at most.

I know the stock Stage 1 pump will be marginal. Really don't want to complicate things w/ an electric pusher pump.

I know Robb Mc produces a good pump but I'm pretty sure he suggests going to 1/2" line--mine is currently the stock 3/8."

Can Jim's pump suck enough thru a 3/8" line for my level of h.p.?

It is a pricey item, as everyone knows, but is it worth it??

I will be running Jim's pump in my roller motor, in conjunction with a Robb Mc 1/2" pickup, and -8 Push Lok hose. I got Jim to talk about it in this thread (post #19)

I run a modifed BBC fuel pump and the stock fuel line and my car has over 500 RWHP. I have not run this combo down the track, but wide open in 4th gear 12.9:1 A/F ratio. Same when on the dyno.

I have one of Jim's pumps on my 507hp combo. I ran 1/2" line more for the future than for what it is now. I thought if I ever added hp the fuel system to handle it would already be in place.

I have jims pump on my motor but also ran robs 1/2 " pickup and 8 an fuel line with good billet filters. It's an awesome piece, but don't know how it will work with 3/8" lines on 500'hp

I had one on my engine that pulled 546HP on the dyno when new and with stock size pickup and lines had no problems. Super nice piece but you pay for it. I tried one of the old Carter style pumps that Mr Gasket was making and it was not even up to par with the old Delco Stage-1 pump.

The Rob MC pump is supposed to be pretty nice but it seems like there were a few complaints early on with them. As with most questions here the search function is your friend.

    X2!

There's no harm in a little overkill in the fuel supply dept, but the opposite is not true. Go with 1/2" line and sender, and Jim's pump and you probably won't ever out grow it!

    Hi folks,

Why is there no 7/16 line?

Also, instead of running hard-to-bend stainless line, why can't we run the entire line with neoprene hose?

Like Larry stated, use 8 an push lok or socketless. It's soft and easy to run

Because neoprene generally earns a D (failing grade) in resistance to chemicals common to automotive use, especially hydrocarbons.

Rubber and elastomeric hose in general should only be used where flexibility is required for assembly, service, or in a dynamic application. There are a ton of reasons why they are far from ideal when it comes to plumbing a long run in a static application, such as running the length of the frame from tank to engine compartment.

Running your fuel line with this stuff is a no brainer.

Get a Rob MC 1/2" pick up for the stock tank, a good mechanical pump like Rob MC or Jim's CV pump, and be done with it.

I have to agreed. If you go lean because of lack of enough fuel to the engine, you risk the engine puking a piston. Been there done that.

A friend of mine has blown up 2 496 BBC engines because of high RPM detonation.

I'm using McRobb pickup & fuel pump with a 1/2" line to the fuel pump, and 3/8" to the carb(McRobb's recommendation) on my GS. As I understand it, JW's pump is just as good, so either will be a good option.:TU: It's pricey, but cheap insurance in the long run.

Jim's pump is head and shoulders above any other mechanical fuel pump on the market for the BBB. CV Products is top-shelf stuff.

that much rubber hose will not pass tech if you go to the track.

Although the pump seems expensive it is a bargain compared to a properly setup electric system.

If you are going to replace lines with hose use stainless braided teflon. The teflon line will last forever. New hard lines are best but a pain to get the through frame parts done. The site Larry has for hose has great prices.

That is true, but you can plumb your entire fuel system with the Aeroquip line I linked, and it will pass tech.
