I have one in my van.. It's a TH400 with overdrive. But you need a computer to control the solenoids that engage the lockup clutch..

David, do you have something aftermarket for the TH400, or are you referring to the later 4L80-E (or 4L85-E) tranny? I've never heard of any lockup parts for the TH400.

It's the 4L80.. The next gen th400. Pan even looks similar..

It's just not practical to make anything like this for the th400.. You need a computer and sensors to run it. It would burn up if engaged all the time.

That's what the tow/haul button is for.. To shut it off while towing.

I thought so...I haven't seen anything like that for the ol' 400. I do remember seeing a TH400 cut & modified with a manual clutch, though - no more torque converter. I think they were tried for a while in some different racing classes during the early '70's. There's even a short writeup on them in Ron Sessions' TH400 book.

Infinitely variable stall speed (with no torque multiplication), plus lockup.

    a 700R4 has non-computer lockup, doesn't it ?? and how about Gessler ... isn't he running a th350 with a lockup converter ??

TH350-C is a lockup trans and can be built for strength like any TH350. TCI and Hughes have performance lockup converters available. The special TH350-C input shaft won't work with TH400.

Since that article in the GS-Xtra, I have not heard of anyone who uses it. Not even sure if the kit is still available.

The way the article was written, it sounded like the convertor was designed more for drag racing than for daily drivers.
