    I am trying to sell a 1970 buick riviera , Big two door car with the 455. Its has sat out in the sun for about 8 years and it shows. But shouldn't someone still be interested in this car??? I dont see alot of them around, sure it isnt a GS, but still a rare car. Any help on why nobody wants the 70 Buick Riviera let me know. If you know someone who is looking for one, I am in Montana and i would like to get rid of it to build another project.

    The 70 model was an unpopular design even then; there were 30% fewer Rivieras sold in 70 than 69. I think it was the fender skirts, but the nose is unattractive to me too.

    Buick felt the pain, and introduced the "short" fender skirts as a mid year option. If your car has those short skirts, advertise that heavily; the car will be much more desirable.

    It has just never really caught on...

    isnt it that much more rare then, maybe just too rare. it is kinda ugly

    Don't take this as an insult, but rare doesn't always equal desirable...

    A 1 of 600 GSX is going to be a lot more desirable than some oddly optioned
    "1 of 1" 1980 Ford Stationwagon.

    Example......a Cadillac Fleetwood with no A/C is rare, but not desirable.

    There could be a few reasons.

    It's priced right, but only for the right person who is looking for this car in the condition in which you have it, and that person hasn't discovered it.
    It's priced too high for its condition for someone not specifically looking for a 70 Riv to go ahead and buy it.

    I cant get the pictures to link????? Oh well, thanks for the input, I guess I will keep looking for some"one" that wants that car. Any ideas on where to find someone interested in the ugly duckling? other then here??

    how about the 455 motor shouldnt that appeal to someone more then the car itself???

    What price range would move a car like that. motor starts, but i dont have a driveline, so i dont know about the transmission. I probably have the price way to high, but i got to start somewhere, and that why im here.

    If you can't get any bites here, list it on Ebay. If you want to play it safe, list with a fairly high reserve but low opening bid, to find out where the bidders will go. FWIW, I think you may be a bit on the high side, for a low demand model year, and the work it needs. jmho of course. :)

    In my opinion, the price is high for a '70 in that condition.
    It looks like you raised your price over time.

    1/22/07:
    5/7/07

    Without a complete driveline, and being sun baked, probably $500.00 - $700.00.
    I missed out on one locally that was driveable, and a GS that went for $800.00 for example. :ball:

    Sounds like it may have good sheetmetal.
    If on the odd chance it has a 3.42 posi rear, that alone would be worth $300 - $500 maybe more.

    If I were you, I would give ebay a shot.

    Sorry man, I know that's not what you wanted to hear.
    I'd like to see a pic or 2 though.

    :beers2:

    You can email them to me at dale455@gmail.com.

    I'm at work now, (work, yeah, I'm real busy. :rolleyes: )
    But tonight I can size them and post them here if you wish.

    The easiest place to find the VIN# is at the base of the windshield on the driver's side.

    There are some other members of this board that have alot of that info.
    Post the question along with the number and I'm sure you will find something out.

    Mail me the photos and I will put them online in a minute.

    Decoding the 1970 VIN will not tell you much, it wasn't until model year 1972 that Buick had the engine in the VIN, your VIN will look like this:

    494570H******

    4 = Buick

    94 = Riviera

    87 = 2 drs Hardtop coupe

    0 = Model year 1970

    H = Flint, Michigan factory

    ****** = Flint production number for model year 1970
