Will it fit?

Have a lead on a 8.5" 10 bolt posi rear end. It is out of a 1969 GTO. From searchs I have done it doesn't seem like it will bolt into a 1970 Skylark. I'm thinking they're both "A" bodies and it should. So my question is will it fit, if so any modifications needed?

1: The 69 GTO came with an 8.2”. If that is what it really is,it is a direct swap. No modifications needed.

2: If it IS an 8.5”,it came out of a 71-72 Skylark/GS or 71-72 Cutlass/442. When swapping an 8.5” into a 1970 Skylark/GS,you will need to shorten your driveshaft 3/4”. That is it.

If you are not sure what it is,post pictures here,or send them to me,so we can identify it correctly.

Still looking......saw this , wondering if the posi unti with ring & pinion will fit into a BOP 8.5 10 bolt rear? This is the ratio I'm looking for.
"8.5 ten bolt possi, 3.42 ratio out of 75-79 Nova will fit 68-74 Nova or 67-69 camaro but is 1 inch wider ."

    What are you asking here?
You said you have a 1970 Buick rear... Or do you have a 8.5 rear?
Or is this a ad you saw '8.5 ten bolt possi, 3.42 ratio out of 75-79 Nova will fit 68-74 Nova or 67-69 camaro but is 1 inch wider'
    68 - 79 Nova and 67 - 69 camaro are the same width
Firebird is 1" wider and 2nd gen camaro and firebird rears are 1" wider.
SO WHAT THEY HAVE??? Who knows. Send the actual ad to jdrace3@gmail.com

Will the posi unit out of the Nova fit into a 10 bolt 8.5" BOP rear end?
    Thank you.

Chuck 8.5 is 8.5 is 8.5 as far as the gears and Posi go. If the Nova rear is an 8.5, then the guts will fit into the 71-72 Skylark/GS rear.

Yep that is correct. BUT I do not know what they or you are talking about 1" narrower etc on the rear end width??? Nova 8.5 was as narrow as you can get? so that is where the confusion is.
GUTS - as long as it is a 8.5 all Bolt in axle rears can use ANY AND ALL posi carriers and gears. The c-clip rears MUST stay with a c-clip type Posi carrier or open carrier. gears all fit.
    410409 and 410408 carriers are c-clip carriers
726 and 725 are the BIA carriers . Which can not be used in a c-clip rear. NO side gear c-clip retention recess machine area for the c-clip to seat into.
    Hope that is clear.

The rear he had in question is a 73-77 c-clip 8.5” that has been floating around for sale on Craigslist. It is listed as a 69 GTO or 64-72 A-body,but it is actually a 73-77 A-body rear that someone attempted to modify to fit a 64-72. It’s good for the posi unit and gears. Pitch the rest.

The pros will chime in but I am 99% sure that's a no . You will need another 8.5 and the 68 Camaro 10 bolt is not a 8.5. Tony

You're question is pretty unclear. Are you asking if you can put the internals from a 68 camaro rear in a 72 ?? rear?

Need to know what car you're trying to put a rear end in, if its an a body you wont be able to put that rear end in without serious modifications. Not worth it imo. If you're trying to put a 68 camaro rear into a 72 camaro i'm not sure about that.
Or are you asking if the internals from a 68 camaro rear will fit in the mystery rear?

    That is a 1972 1971 Buick / Cutlas 10 bolt 8.5 rear
The 1968 camaro rear end guts will NOT fit the 8.5 rears guts NOR will you be able to bolt it into your chassis whole either. Sorry
