Will the humidity change gloss black to satin??

Hi guys, I've been working on doing the interior of the Riv for the past few weeks. After dissasembling the door panels and giving them a thorough cleaning w/ simple green and some pre prep wipe, I used Dupli color adhesion promoter, then gloss black. The rear pieces came out great. The front top panel came out awesome as well, but it looks slighly more subdued (not quite flat, more satin), not as glossy as the other panels. The humidity here may have been borderline when the first ones were done, and closer to 100% for the other one. I did use a new can for the second panel, but it is labeled as the first. Other than that it is coming out beautiful.

Any opinions or help would be appreciated!! Thanks:TU:

In short, yes! I had a problem one time with my GS air cleaner. A few things to make sure of, make sure the temp of the paint is around what the manufacture recommends and to be sprayed at. Do not paint on humid days. Make sure the item to be painted is around the same temp as well, AL.

Jason, I found the same thing when I painted the dash & console trim (gloss black)on my '64 Riviera. I did some parts on a nice sunny day and they turned out well. When I started to do the rest it was @100% humidity outside and they were turning out like yours, almost a flat or matte black. I waited for some good weather, and using the same paint they came out the same as the first batch. Wait for some good weather and it will turn out fine.

Humidity is a killer on Black.....on any color....as stated wait for a less humid day...will have to re-sand parts and allow the moisture to evaporate as it will bleed thru to coats you apply on top

Thanks for the help y'all. But dang it, I put the inserts back in. All those tabs were a pain to line up for the reinstall but I guess it has to be done right. Note to self: stop reassembling at 4 am when it ALL looks the same...LOL :TU:

Oh just thought of something. Since it will rarely drop below 90% now, can I paint outside and bring it inside to dry/cure?? Will it dry "glossy" after painting outside or what?????

No, the paint will mix with the water in the air when sprayed and make a mess. You need to find a dry day to paint unless you know some one with a paint booth, AL.

Oh I see. It gets contaminated right from the get-go and not cure correctly. Brandy will be wondering why the house will smell though.
    Thanks Al:beer
