I'm looking to buy 17"x 8" ss cragars, the ad says 5x4.75 with zero offset. Will these fit a stock 1965 Buick skylark?
An 8" rim with 0" offset will have 4.5" of backspacing. That is pretty tight on a '65 unless you stay under 245 width. The 64-67's like at least 5" of backspacing with an 8" rim to get a 245 or 255 tire in the fenderwell without rubbing.
I use 8x17 American Racing AR500 wheels. You can see a picture of this wheels here; http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?t=197059 http://www.americanracing.com/browse_vintage.asp I have 225/45R17 in the front and 245/45R17 in the rear. I am not 100 % sure, but i think i have 4,75" backspacing.
I know you probably don't want to hear it, but I have come to the conclusion that unless you're auto crossing or you have a bunch of money to blow, it's hard as h&!! to beat the good old 15" rallyes. My 2 cents.
I dunno about that. I paid $300 for my 2002 Camaro SS wheels, $100 for the billet spacers, $400 for the Sumitomo HTZ II 275/40-17 tires mounted and balanced. $800 in all and worth every penny in ride quality over the old 15" Cragar Street Stars and BFG T/A's.
