Will this engine reach 330 HP?

Hey guys, I have been pondering this. My buddy is dropping an engine in his 90 camaro, and he claims the crate he is buying dynoes 330HP. Now, he says this was dynoed with TBI, which is what he plans to use, a relatively streetable cam, and with probably mediocre heads (not sure what they are). I think his expectations are somewhat out of reach, judging an LT1 (with port injection) barely comes with 260HP from the factory. Any opinions?

    PS, its a 350.

Is that the 330hp/380tq crate engine? Seems like a decent engine...for a Chevy!!:Brow:

A nicely modified TBI system should support that level of power. No reason to think a SBC can't make 330hp!! Should make for a good driver.:TU:

330 hp on an engine dyno (which it what it probably is) really isn't that much. Figuring a loss of 20% by the time it gets to the rear wheels, that is only about 265 hp. Crate motors like that are easy to come by and fairly mild. I think the ZZ4 crate motor is rated at about 350 or 355 hp.

I think the 260hp rating you are comparing it to is at the rear wheels, that would be about 325 at the engine.

Its not the ZZ4 or anything; its just a regular crate with nothing performance about it.

Doesn't really seem to take that much these days. All the new cars being advertised, even honda's VW's and toyota's, are claiming 260+ hp (rear wheels), and they aren't performance cars. I saw a road test in Motor Trend of the new Accord and it ran the quarter mile in high 14's!

yeah but these have sophisticated fuel delivery and stuff. anyway, well have to wait and see. NOW i need to find a dyno!:Brow:

    NJBuickRacer I'd rather be racing...

With a good dyno tune, that car should lay down around 260 at the wheels or so. Probably a low-mid 13 setup if he matches his package correctly. The chevy motors have no torque so the right gears/converter are critical for the car. Tell him he shoulda put in a turbo 3.8:Brow:
