I have a triple black 71 GS, auto with deluxe bench interior. It currently has black window crank knobs although I'm pretty sure they aren't originals. Today while replacing my package tray and hunting around the interior for a build sheet I found what used to be a clear knob handle under my rug. This car was restored about 13-14 years ago so it may be an old original to my car that dropped under there or it was always under there since new and they decided to leave it that way. So what determines if a car gets black or the clear style??? Thanks Ron
Ron asks, "So what determines if a car gets black or the clear style?" The production year of the car. All 71's should have clear knobs. Many of the parts stores have complete window cranks available in their "help" sections. They also have just the clear knobs available so you can switch out just the knobs, but I wouldn't do that in your case. The black knobs would be correct for the 69 guys and they would probably like the set you have. Duane
Thanks Duane!!!! After finding that one in the car I figured clear was correct so I ordered up a set today. Anyone need my black one's send me a PM. Ron
Duane, my '69 Stage 1 is all original and has clear knobs...the '69 Stage 1 convertible we are doing currently also had the original clear knobs, both were built in January 1969. Any thoughts???
I could be wrong on that one, they may have been right for some 68 buicks. All I know is that some of the 68-69 cars we scrapped over the years had them. I think some of the other GM cars also came with them like the El-Camino's as well as the corvettes. My old 74 vette had them too. Duane
Pretty sure all the '68 GM intermediates used the color coded interiors, ie door lock knobs, window crank ect. '69 I've seen were all clear, but never say never right ? DL
