Hi All: Are there supposed to be window crank springs on a 71 GS.? Is so,
where do they go? Thanks for your help.

Yes, they go behind the door panel.

Don't mean to butt in, but I guess I am, sorry . Any ideas on what would make a roll up window ( on a 2 door ) hard to roll up? My drivers side takes way too much effort.

In a best case senario, the tracks and gears might just need to be cleaned and lubricated. Take the panel off and grease everything up.

That is my bet too. White lithium grease works good. Don't forget the plastic disc that goes over the spring.

Thanks, I was told that this was done as I asked if they were 100% positive on the lithium grease and he said yes. I say something is amiss.

The plastic disc goes in between the door panel and the crank right?

Its one of the cases of "to check it is to replace it". You might have to pull the regulator out to check it. In which case, why not just replace it?

Sometime the little plastic rollers break or sieze on the regulator. So instead of rolling, they drag. The regulators are readily available from any of the Chevelle places. Not too hard to replace. Worst part of the job is the shredded fore arms from the sharp edges.

Are we talking about the same disc? There is a disc that goes under the window crank to prevent wear to the door panel

the spring goes between the panel & the door. the plastic disc goes on the crank handle thus between the handle & the panel.

    1)Window crank
    2)Grey plastic disc
    3)Door panel
4)Spring---With large OD end of spring pushing out against backside of door panel

    otter It'll be done someday.

I have a 68 with the small crank for the vent window and large crank for the main window, took the door panels off 5 years ago when I started the repaint procedure, (long story short-my painter's wife got cancer/he stopped helping me work on the car/she died/he went nuts/I have a car that has been stripped to bare metal for over 5 years) Anyway, in the individual bags we put the parts in, there is a big spring for the pass door but the driver's door has 2 springs (1 large, 1 smaller). I assume the smaller is for the vent crank and the one for the passenger side probably got lost many years ago??? Sound right?
