The drivers door window on my 72 GS screeches terribly when going up and down. It is metal on metal contact. How can I get it quiet again?
    Thanks,

First thing I would do is take the door apart and run the window up and down as you try to find the source of the noise. My bet is a guide has lost its padding and is rubbing on the glass. It could be nothing more than a loose bolt allowing the tracks to be out of alignment. Check it out and post what you find.

if it is the rubbing pad, I've used the soft side of a piece of self-stick velcro with good results

There is the tube assembly window guide in the door that guides the window as it goes up and down. The upper and lower guides that ride on this tube are rubbing directly on the tube. It appears that these guides have material that should be oil soaked or something to keep things quiet. Something is missing in that the guides can ride directly on the tube. I tried greasing the tube but the guides wiped it right off and oil just ran down the tube.

    Thanks for some advice.

Based on your description above Id say no. those pads glue onto the metal guides that the glass lays against at the top of the opening. Not sure what "tubes" your referring to in the last post.

The rod is part #36, the guides are 39 and 51. They are rubbing on the rod, metal to metal. Is there supposed to be some kind of pad or something in the guides to reduce the noise?
    Thanks,
    Lou

Id think there should be some sort nylon bushing around the inside of the moving parts.

I guess when the car comes back I am just going to have to pull the parts out and see what I can see.
    Thanks.
